well I'm booked in for a further week of warranty work which I suspect will end up being at least a couple of weeks for mostly body work issues incuding bulkhead, seat frames, bumper and door. but I've spoken to LR direct today and told them about the intermitent problem and are going to raise this with local dealership so hopefully they can resolve......hmmm. strange the 'spare' connector in the rear o/s wheel arch that some have used for an aux outlet has fallen off for a second time due to corrosion in the copper makes me wonder what the rest of the loom is like? the only good thing to report is on a return trip to Bristol from B'ham I recorded a whopping 36mpg !! it ran beautifully on the way there and I always thought better fuel consumption was possible (normal 32-33mpg) - just wish it would run like this all the time ! |

How the hell did you get 36mpg, was it on a trailer?
The best I've ever got was 29.5mpg with the BAS tune up (for torque/towing/economy). |

I do normally get between 30 - 32 but I have to admit on the outward bound trip to Bristol I was doing some slip streaming (behind some trucks doing c 55mph.)
the conditions weren't perfect other than that as anyone who was on the m5 north bound on thursday 26th Jul will know (accidents and lane closures) - according to the radio my journey had an extra hour and half added to it due to delays etc (I reckon closer to 1 hour). with the return trip to Bristol accounting for the most of the miles and the rest being a return trip to Bedford (from B'ham) I managed to average 35.98 mpg. been to the dealers today with an updated list of warranty work and looks like they're gonna need it for at least a couple of weeks. |

35.98 (UK)mpg that is 7.85 ltr/100km. Just impossible with any Defender. Afraid you must be making an error in calculation. Even the 30 mpg or 9.42 ltr/100km is highly doubtful to be real. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

while we're at it......
got 360miles on the clock at the moment and no orange light just yet (but don't think it'll be too long now) which is the result of b'ham to Llandovery (complete with large single axle Coachman caravan), then on to Swansea (without caravan) and back to Llandovery then back to b'ham with caravan (I would guess thats c340 miles). so I guess thats going to prove to be at least 25 mpg ..... not too bad I guess? |

I usually fill mine from a tank in the shed so I have no way of knowing the exact mpg. However on a recent trip I filled the 2008 Puma at the pumps and it was as follows.
As mine is in kms. I have converted to the more normal mpg for this posting. 438.4 miles. 14.68 gallons. = 29.86 mpg 401.2 miles. 13.3 gallons. = 30.16 mpg No motorways, maximum speed 60 mpg. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Actually conversion is 4.546, but that doesn't matter. It is not the first time that mistakes in calculation are made, but, with all due respect, I don't think anyone here on this forum has ever reached such mpg figures as you mention. Only wish it were phisycally true And, no, I am not driving too far too fast at all, normal speeds, no trashing at all, etc. and get to abt 11 ltr/100km or 25 to 26 mpg You never actually own a Defender. 4.5461 and not 4.541 either way the reason for such a good result on this occassion is most likely due to the slip streaming and hopefully in part due to the engine running sweetly. with regards to the slip streaming you can feel the difference. and with regards to the mpg figures exceeding manufacturers figures is 'business as usual' for me. |

Can you please share the secret with all of us My engine is running as sweet as can be, so there must be something else we are missing... You never actually own a Defender. I can only put it down to smooth and slow driving.
always tray to use the engine to slow down and then just cruise round traffic islands etc. perhaps its just me ..... I used to have the pi$$ taken out of me big time at my last place of work for being s tight and using the minium amount of fuel. for anyone that does alot of motorway work - try knocking 5 mph off your usual speed and I think you might be suprised.....get up a little earlier in the morning and try it. I could n't possibly recommend slip streaming trucks but it certainly works ......just watching the cycling now and it works wonders for them too. |

So except for the slip streaming trucks which indeed does not sound like the safest of things to do, nothing special to me. Still getting nowhere close to 30 mpg though You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
