Gearbox woes
Noise in our Defender gearbox got worse today.
Took it to Bob's.
He wouldn't let us bring it home.
Mainshaft bearing(s) gone.
New gearbox needed.

That's a £26,000 car with just 30,000 miles on the clock.
Any cheap eurobox would still be in warranty.
Ours expired two years ago.

So now it starts......
£30 taxi fare home...

A rattling grinding noise at road speed rather than engine speed.

I'm wondering if I can take it up with Land Rover.
Anyone know a good contact?

Two years out of warranty might present a bit of a challenge - and I suspect you would be sworn to secrecy if they did help as it would certainly open the floodgates for out of warranty claims Thumbs Up

But let us know how you get on Very Happy Defender 110 Puma Utility XS

It's been suggested by our local dealer that I might be able to claim a 'good will' 25% dicount off an exchange box (circa £1500) after an inspection.
Since Ashcroft will rebuild mine for £495 the choice is obvious. Rolling Eyes
