One was from the chap who I think is a friend of David Bowyer - often shares a stand with him. The other was bought from Billing last year - but I cannot remember who from. One of the many people with side bars skid plates & the like.
David's friend very helpfully suggested I could modify it myself - but having had another look at it this evening it would be simpler to make from scratch! He did offer to replace it IF he made one that actually fits. Si |

EXACTLY what vehicle do you have? TD5 or Puma? What year?
Has it had rear cross member replaced? Is the fuel tank the original type of fuel tank? Lots of questions but it can be difficult to say what will fit as LR can be modified. Please note that a tow ball attached to a 2" receiver drop plate is NOT type approved Cars require type approval on tow bars since about 1997. However commercial vehicles do not require type approval on tow equipment. Brendan |

Would the Alko quick-change system work on a standard towbar for what you want Si?

Shame that Southdown don't still make thier version of a removable tow hitch on the tank guard, was a nice bit of kit.

I didn't realise that they'd stopped making these - what's the story? The Southdown tank guard and removable hitch was a quality piece of kit, and was on my list of things to get one day. |

The Alko hitch looks like a nice solution, unfortunately to a different problem to mine anyway.
I need a drop hitch but I need it to be removable because it acts as a plough if you take the vehicle off road. At the moment I'm continually removing and refitting the original A frame drop hitch but it takes half an hour and I'd like a better solution. Si |

I Came across the Alko system in a german offroading mag. They appear to do all sorts of attachments for it including swan-neck towballs which lower the ball height by several( 6+) inches. All TUV approved. Would be quite expensive but you could have various height balls/recovery point/nato hitch etc for any application all on their own backing plates

ah the reciever hitch nightmare
well i bought one....and it fell to bits after 21 miles.....the trailer left the rear of my 110. Fortunately i was slowing to a stop when it broke and little damage was done apart from wiring. I'd look into the alko system. Never again will i trust a mig monkey who thinks he can weld when it comes to towing. Had i been towing a caravan or a car trailer with a car on it wouldn't of lasted 21 miles and could of killed someone. a tyrpe approved or a TUV approved systems the only way to go. buyer beware! |

I've got the original Southdown detachable hitch off of my 110 tank guard here. I've never used it (bought it all second hand) and it looks like the prevous owner only used it a bit. i could be tempted to part with it if the price is right, as I never tow anything with the 110 (it has a NATO hitch on the back anyway) Pics to follow Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
