I spoke to the LR technical guy today and mentioned that I had found some water in the fuel filter and should I be concerned.
He reackons I should bring it in for them to clean the tank. When I mentioned there was also silt in the sample he sort of said that I may need to pay for it as the recall was only for water and the silt maybe from elsewhere. I reakon the silt came in with the breather as I drove her on a wet dirt raod the first time before re-locating the breather myself. I hope they don't try and shaft me for this one. She goes in next Thursday. Can anyone show me the GTR for this recall with the specifics. Thanks James Puma 110 - gone Series III 1973 - going strong |

Do not accept that there was a thread on Australia LRO and they tried that, from memory the puma had the stupid fuel breather facing forward on right side etc and the guy got lots of problems,
there is a thread here but maybe not the correct one It is suppoed to be fit for purpose and should not get into the fuel at all, its their problem http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defen...all-2.html do I search re fuel etc under defender section good luck |

Reading through the GTR it only specifies these checks if there is a driveability problem or if there is more than 40cc of water.
My water was actually less than 40cc but having mud in it definately means it came through the faulty breather and not through the filler. I assume LR are obliged still to sort out the water in the tank issue. They may get away without changing the fuel metering and pressure releif valve but I would think at least the tank flush, new fuel filter and new breather should be for their acount. I am going to speak to the service manager first before I give them my vehicle. Puma 110 - gone Series III 1973 - going strong |

not at the moment, but what can i do about it. wife colected the car and they said to her that a filter is not covered in waranty.
did a phone cal to the dealers the day after, and dealer told me it whas more a problem with the fuel not with the breather. according to him here in belgium we have the worst fuel of Europe. |

Funny isn't it all over the world they appear to be blaming the fuel....we went through it also, they were going to smack us with a 10,000 bill for a complete new fuel system. these cars we made to cope with the differing levels of fuel quality around the world just read the land rover website it states it on there. they like to try the fuel thing first.....keep pushing we did and the whole lot was done under warranty. bearing in mind though as was really bad we even had bacterial growth in our tank! part of the reason we were also able to fight though is when we first reported a problem in the Feb the dealer said don't worry bringing it in if its driving ok just keep going we took the car in 5/6 months later as the problem was being persistent and that's when they found it. Oh and we also got a print out of Feb weather to show them with the GTR message to prove that Feb when the car got the problem was a record year for highest rain fall in the month of Feb. We covered every avenue. YOU KNOW REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!!!! |

Hi James. I want to relocate my breather too but am worried that it might invalidate the warranty. I take it they never mentioned it to you then?.Normally I would just do it but after removing the front light guard to change a bulb, there was a sticker on the underside of it saying, "removal of this item will invalidate the warranty".{or words to that effect} Seems stupid on a light guard. When I bought mine last year the dealer in Alice Springs said they were waiting on clarification from Land Rover, but as they didn't have any info about breather relocation and given where I was going, recommended I get some tubing and lengthen it anyway (they were willing to do it, but I would have had to pay as it wasn't a recognised issue "officially"). So I did lengthen both tank and rear diff. 110 2.4TDCi

On the Light Guard that sticker referes to removing the sticker as that identifies it as genuine, not removing the lightguard As for relocating the breather - it wont invalidate your warranty. They will do it for you as it was an action they should. Mine was relocated not by the dealer but by land rover of sorts before the service action came out. Mike |

Good news - herewith reply from my dealer that I was hoping for - so far good news
Hi Mr. Wrench We will do the work as per the GTR instruction, that is the official repair for the concern. If I look at your sample I would guess that about 70% of the sample is water. In view of this we will definitely have to remove the tank under warranty. Kind Regards Puma 110 - gone Series III 1973 - going strong |
