This weekend I managed 118 liters into my 110 with an extra fender tanks, I was under the impression the capacity was 120 Lt? Now not so certain. And no limp mode with according to what I know 2 liters left in the tank?

It doesn't limp. What will happen is that the engine will hiccup. IIRC then it will switch itself off in a couple of kms to prevent the engine from running out of diesel completely. --

i hate filling up, (cost and time) so i always aim to do another 30 miles after the bong in my 2.4tdi 90xs.

when my my 51 plate c class was running really low, hard cornering used to starve the engine of fuel and it would temporarily run out until it was travelling in a straight line again.

Why do I get the impression we don't use our vehicles "normally"? Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

How much useable fuel is left after the "beep"?
I can't find it in any LR texts.

Probably more than we think I reckon, I managed to do 69 miles (to a filling station) in a d3 after the trip (trick) meter said 0.00 miles range on remaining fuel! The garage I was going to go to was blocked off on the motorway and couldn't go elsewhere as we were boxed in in a huge traffic jam. A bit of slipstreaming and hardly any throttle seemed to work (maybe I'll try that in the 110 when I have nothing better to do Thumbs Up )

I have a DC 110 and I'm returning 25mpg no matter how you drive, I have had it from new and have been keeping a close eye on the consumption as its been my first new buy ever so was keen to see how things went. According to my phone app I have spent £6,500 on diesel and I get 24p to the mile.... I dont care to much its only out of interest as I could as easly buy a car that did 74mpg but it wouldnt ba a Defender and most probably wouldnt do what I wanted.......... My son also owns one a TD5 defender and my wife drives Discovery 4 so we are an Land rover family.

Happy Defenders all round

Managed 800 plus kilometers for 101 ltrs in heavy traffic use in Addis. Tank is 120 litres. Darent run the tank to low and use only one source for fuel where possible. Dont want to even think about getting into limp mode outside of the city.

The WSM says:
Fuel tank usable fuel
90 Models ............................................................... 60.00 13.20 gall
110 & 130 Models ................................................... 75.00 16.50 gall

What I understood is that the real fuel tank capacity is 5L more because you should not use the last 5L. That's why it says useable.

I am sure when the Td5 90 was launched the fuel tank capacity was stated as 67 ltrs, not sure about the 110. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Idea Embarassed My TD5 numbers are not completely relevant here, although the fuel tank is the same Question

Luckily I am a WSM collector Laughing

TD4 2.2 WSM says:
Fuel Tank Capacities
Variant Capacity (Useable Fuel)
90 55 liters
110/130 70 liters

and:
LOW FUEL INDICATION AND RUN DRY STRATEGY for 2.2L MY2012
The run-dry strategy is used to maintain the systems fuel prime at fuel run out. It ensures the minimum amount of fuel is always left in the swirl pot.
The instrument cluster activates the yellow low fuel warning light (next to the fuel gauge) with 17% of fuel remaining in the tank. The fuel gauge will indicate empty with 12% of fuel left in the tank.
With 6 liters left in the tank the run-dry strategy will be invoked. An engine mis-fire will be induced for approximately 1 mile after which the engine will be shut down. The engine can be re-started in mis-fire mode and will continue to run for a further mile until the engine shuts down again. This can be repeated until the fuel suction port in the tank is uncovered and causes engine fuel starvation and loss of prime. Re-starts after run-dry shut down are not recommended.

For 2.4L MY2007 it is:
LOW FUEL INDICATION AND RUN DRY STRATEGY
The run-dry strategy is used to maintain the systems fuel prime at fuel run out. It ensures the minimum amount of fuel is always left in the swirl pot.
The instrument cluster activates the yellow low fuel warning light, (next to the fuel gauge) with 15% of fuel remaining in the tank. The fuel gauge will indicate empty with 11% of fuel left in the tank.
With 4 liters left in the tank the run-dry strategy will be invoked. Martin
