Tent Recomendations?
I have had a Khyam Highlander quick erect Dome tent for about 10 years, and it is now due for replacement.

I am not sure that what I want exists, but I thought it worth an ask anyway.

I am after a smallish tent for use as an overnight, or touring tent for car (landrover) based camping. It needs to accommodate 2 as a minimum with some kit.

I have really liked the quick erect functionality of the Khyam, so something that does not take long to put up would be good.

I would however like something made of something a little heavier, like a ripstop fabric rather than the thin nylon that the khyam (and most smaller tents seem to use). I would also like something with an inner as well as an outer, rather than a single skin affair as it will mostly be used in the UK.

I have looked at the howling moon tents, and like the idea, but I wondered if anyone had any recomendations for something that I might not have considered.

Cheers

Roof tent would be nice - but too much ££ in the first place, and then too much of a pain having the extra height when out laning.

Should also mention that my truck is a doublecab - which means the Oztents generally don't fit inside, so would have to go on the roof. Ideally I want it to be able to be stowed inside...

Cheers

That's the trouble with the Oztent is it's bulky, so if you have a 90 or DC they're a tad awkward.
Love the concept/looks though, they'd go great with my Foxwing awning.

How about the oztent Jet http://www.boab.biz/acatalog/JET_TENT_.html Looks like it folds down quite small.

I'd think one of site sponsors could sort one of those out.

Aztec Autohaven - these are good tents, not sold anymore, come up for about £100 second hand, fit on the back of your Landy Thumbs Up Very pleased with mine but would like a Caranex maybe just for myself as the Aztec sleeps two in a pod one side and the other is quite spacious - too big for little old me really...

I like the tents that attach to the Defender so it can be utilised as a kind of big cupboard and you can take your light from it easily as well. Also zips up so is free standing...

That Coleman looks very similar to our big khyam tent that we use if we are staying somewhere for a few days.

I rather like the look of The oztent jet tent tho. That might be the right sort of thing. Does anyone know how big they are when packed down? I guess Brendan might be able to help?

The caranex is a good idea, but I have awnings on the truck, so don't really need to integrate the truck and tent together.

Any more ideas or suggestions gratefully received

Ta

I can't recommend Decathlon tents enough. They're not expensive (relatively speaking), well made, easy to put up and nicely designed. Even if it lasts half the time a £1,200 tent does, you could have bought 4 or 5 Decathlon tents.

I have seen a couple of trucks with a roof tent mounted in place of the rear hood. It certainly gets the height issue resolved. My truck has a patriot security cage fitted under the tilt though, so removing it to mount the tent is a pita. The truck is our mobile workshop when we are on challenge events too, so I can't really afford to lose the storage space...

I will investigate the decathlon tents too - I have not come across them...

the camping shops are almost giving away tents at the moment... really depends on the climate, for UK and southern Europe there's a massive choice. tipi's look interesting and are becoming quite popular Thumbs Up
