Company car takes the hit on the mileage....and driving style and frustrations associated with it. The Land Rover owes me nothing and I do not wish to rely on the company car should I wish to jack by job in. The Land Rover's a keeper and I can lavish care, attention and dosh on it knowing it's there when and if I really need it!

Thumbs Up

Nice to know there are other like me, who bought to keep & not plan to swap for the newest shiniest LE. Mine went thru OK though with an advisory that the wheels stick out beyond its (OE) arches. I have Terrafirma's XL arches, still boxed, but they are black, not Tonga Green. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

My accountant stated that because the defender is essentially a van it is very tax efficient as a company car!

I have asked him to look at car user allowance against company car this year.

The emission figure for the Defender is the crippler I'm afraid you'll find once the formula's been crunched. 103g/Kg on my current company car at a retail value of £18k equates to about £70 per month tax liability, mine is also 'benefit in kind' so I can use it for personal use.

There are so many mitigating factors but the Defender emissions kicking out 269-295g/Kg does not bode too well. You can reduce it significantly by company advertising logos on your vehicle and not using it for anything but work use of course.
