Defender central locking problem

Does anyone out there have an idea as to why my central locking has stopped working?

With either the remote or using the key, all the doors lock, but will then unlock, sometimes immediately, sometimes as your walking away and on occasion about half an hour later. Of course when I take it to my mechanic to show him the problem, it works correctly!

If I use the remote, and it unlocks it will set off the alarm.

I've recently had to have the power wire to the o/s window motor replaced as it had virtually broken in two in the rubber conduit from the A pillar to the door after 10 years of been opened and closed, resulting in the window motor not working. Could there be a another wire in there with a bad connection causing the problem?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Yes, could easily be one of those wires, or the c locking actuator in the drivers door, not mega money at about £25, and door card off.

Are you sure all the 4 (or 5 with the rear door) lock mechanisms are going into their lower state properly? There's an issue with cold weather that the door lock "buttons" don;t move correctly, and stick in their holes... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)
