1st to 2nd crunch
I have tried to search but can’t find the answer among the huge amount of posts on this subject but someone here I think said they changed their gearbox oil and in doing so got rid of the first to second crunch.
Of course this may have been some alcohol induce dream I may or may not have had in which case forget I said anything.

Great! Thanks!

For some reason I thought it was an oil not an additive but now I am corrected. Anybody know if there is a UK distributor?

Thanks for the help Thumbs Up

Just had a quick search and nothing was obvious.

If we can find a vendor in the UK, I would be interested in buying some too.

Not sure about this within warranty tho...not sure LR would like it if they found something "non standard" if you were having a warranty claim... Neutral (I have already changed all fluids myself, but with "recommended" fluids only)...

My motorbike gearbox is prone to be clunky, may try it in there first... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Indeed yes but I am lucky (if you can call it that) as mine has just run out of warranty.

I have no idea what it cost or if they would sell direct to the UK? I have been searching but like you found nothing in the UK. Sad

It may have been this thread. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic7813.html?view=next

I was going to try some as it was very easy to crunch 1st to 2nd but decided to try some of the later spec MTF94 first (DextronII was the recommended oil for my year) and it's made a big difference. Your box probably has that in anyway though.

Looks interesting, might buy a couple of tubes if I can't find the anywhere I can get the Ceramic stuff. Was thinking of contacting the italians direct to see if they would send to the uk.

NOOOO NOOOO dont use that one, I put it in perfectly working gearbox and after that it was hard to make any shift, I believe the antifriction also made the sincronizers (?) slip. The MOS2 might be perfect for the differentials or the transfer box.

CERATEC is the one you might be looking for.

Interesting thread this.

Our '06 Defender has now developed this grunch, 1st to 2nd , I just delay the engagement of the the gear for a fraction of a second or double de clutch, though I thought it was wear on the syro gear,. Will follow this thread with interest

I looked at that one, but it seemed to be aimed at Engine Oil...but then there's a thread lower down about people putting it into transmission... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Very interesting, thanks.

Q: Has anyone actually asked Ashcroft’s if they have a solution to the 1st to 2nd crunch or even if they have an opinion on the subject? I know I would be interested.
