I've had a lot of luck on both my Def and Disco changing springs over. A method I have found that works well is:
1. Bottle jack axle (just by trailing arm) up on the side you are changing the spring. Use chocks on remaining 3 wheels.
2. Remove wheel from hub
3. Loosen bottom spring retainer bolts and remove
4. Hilift side of vehicle (on rock slider or rear crossmember) - make sure the car is on the flat and that the jack doesnt want to pivot or move.
5. Lower bottle jack at axle end
6. Watch as spring loosens and drops below top mount, stop releasing jack down
7. Fully remove bolts from retainers and wiggle spring out
8. Insert new spring, attach retainer, wind bottle jack back up so it locates the spring
9. Fully tighten retainer, re attach wheel, drop bottle jack, release hi lift.
Repeat for opposite side.

I don't really like jacking onto the diff outer and also I feel this adds some stability with 3 wheels being attached to the car at all times. Ive used this tactic for 2" lift springs with no issue. Also no need to remove the shock either.

Just make sure it's stable if using a hi lift, well chocked, and have someone with you that can assist and keep an eye on things.

This was really interesting thanks. My 90 is way too stiff at the rear and softening the springs seems like a good way forward.

in your opinion .. if I mount the Kony Ht (not the raids) I get a more comfortable ride? when I load the defender a lot, when cornering it tends to lean a lot, and I think my springs are tired (150k)
