Oxfordshire help
So this isn't the normal sort of post you'd find in this topic but I figured this might be better placed here than in the Dealership Feedback section. If it's not then I apologise!

Basically I'm looking for somewhere in Oxfordshire that comes well recommended for sourcing and adding bits and bobs to my Landy, which hopefully won't be too expensive. I normally deal with James French but since their work rate is £75/hour I was hoping that I could find something a little cheaper without forgoing quality.

Thanks in advance!

Is it worth trying to negotiate an all in price with Steve or if you are spending good money with JF then a discounted rate for perhaps none service items ?

Got to be worth a try first

Good Luck

I use JF for servicing needs and I live in Bournemoth, such is the regard I have for their quality of service. Think you'll be 'hard-pushed' to find cheaper and retain what you wish personally.

I haven't got any problems with their servicing. Very impressed so far and had 3 with them. Bought my car off them as well. Was just wondering about parts.

Outsource from the internet and fit yourself if you have the technical acumen and the time. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I was thinking of outsourcing from the internet and then taking to them or someone else to fit it possible, as unfortunately I have neither acumen or time since I'm not back in the UK for very long at a time.

I would think it highly unlikely if you sourced the parts and got someone to fit them that they would discount their hourly rate.

If they were sourcing the materials have a few words with them and see if they could do a 'package' deal. In that case discuss the complete package at the beginning, do not go along and have item A fitted and then later say whilst you are at it add item B to the job, and latter on item C. Garages are like builders they LOVE EXTRAS!

Mark Smith Land Rovers of Bicester look after mine for servicing and stuff that I can't sort myself (read that as pretty much everything!) and have also in the past fitted a couple of bits I've sourced from elsewhere.

Labour cost from memory was £50+VAT/hour when I last used them (Dec'11). There's a few Oxon/Bucks members on here that use or have used these guys Thumbs Up

My only recent experience of them sourcing a part for me was a fraction more expensive than what I could find on the net but one of their guys lives just up the road from me so I saved on the postage. Smile

Hi, I use MID Engineering in Wantage - 01235 771114 or mark@mid-engineering.co.uk
Ask for Mark or Helen - I highly recommend them for sourcing parts / accessories and repairs / servicing.

Looks like we are well catered for with Land Rover specialists in this area from posts above Very Happy

I agree must companies use the profit they make on the parts to discount the labour rate or the other way round, not many garages fit parts they have not sourced.

I've taken a box of bits sourced from this site and eBay to MID and they've put them on - no problems - plus for a few, theyve had to supply teh fixing kit.

There is also frogisland on Milton park industrial estate near Didcot. I've bought a couple of items from them and they been good so far, servicing etc is untested by me until it's due next.

I would Echo the comments above.

March Smirth is worth a visit, Frogs are quite expensive for bolting things on and I have no experiance of MID so can't comment.

What in particular are you planning to fit? There are probably enough forum members with the skills and care needed to make a day of it if the tasks can be done in a day! A few bacon butties and lots of tea always goes down well Wink
