Just thought I'd share this:
In my quest to get better FM reception "out in the sticks" I have thoroughly tested various aerial alternatives. These include the original LR telescopic, a stubby rubber one (relatively good quality) and 2 CB aerials cut down slightly to receive a 3/4 wave at 100 MHz. I made sure all were earthed properly. The outcome? Stick with the original telescopic! Despite the CB aerials theoretically picking up stronger signal, it's not noticeable, plus there is more interference, even in the city centre when reception should be brilliant. The rubber one is just weak - city centre is okay. I was quite surprised as I thought the telescopic construction was just for convenience in car washes etc. but apparently it's pretty good for radio reception too... Hi, posted this on another page but I think its more relevent here, I've installed an on windscreen aerial, works a charm and no worries about it being bent by nature! will post pics as soon as I figure out this photobucket thing!

I've got one of those little thingies on our old Beetle - also works well
Not very "Defender" though  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I wonder if there is such a thing as an internal antenna that could for example be mounted on the roof inside under the headlining?

anyone tried those sharkfin ariels ? there was one fitted in the landy mag a couple of months ago, but no information on whether it was any good (or not)

A simple trick is to earth the aerial. I've done this with my cb and it made a massive diffence.
