I've never understood sill guards - you drill holes into something you're trying to protect, which themselves are only held on by a few bolts. Why not just take them off and put something better on? You can then replace the undamaged item when you want to sell it? Just my thoughts... I'll get my coat.

Thumbs Up Rock sliders with or without tree bars are proper protection.

I agree but also understand that the standard sills are so thin that they damage relatively easily. Chequerplate will take the odd bash without marking.

Doesn't anyone make replacement sills made out of 3mm chequerplate?

I doubt it when it's so much easier to make overlays. A complete cill replacement would be a much more complicated proposition. Darren

I don't believe anyone makes them, but have always thought they'd be a good idea, as even though the increased complication of making them would obviously increase the price, I think a number of people would buy them as they don't want to drill their new car. The increased expense would also be offset by them being fully transferable to your next Defender! Peter

Rock sliders replace sills though. So you have a tough slab of metal replacing the flimsy sill, with or without a chequerplate added. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Not everyone wants rock sliders though, a less extreme heavyweight sill would be an intermediate position between them and the standard sill.
