It said apparently in the 2007 manuals to run the engine in over the first 1000 miles - think it advised not to go over 2000 or 2500 rpm for the first 1000 miles - can't remember
![]() Mine definitely loosened up and gave more grunt over the 1000 miles after running it in. Gearbox etc also becomes less tight ![]() I ran a new remanufactured Ford V4 unit in about 5 years over 1500 miles as instructed, what a difference after 1500 miles, thought the engine was gutless it was so tight and lacking in power when out of the crate! Was having to go down to 3rd up the slightest incline... I know this is a seventies engine but despite what others say about thrashing modern engines from the get go I would still run them in as advised, had to do the same with two new outboards as instructed otherwise "it will shorten the life of the unit"... Once it's run in then give it some welly every now and then. |

Apart from the first miles to let things to settle, I found my MY11 to be run in from about 10.000 miles on. I was surprised that it took so long, but looking at the logs, it appears that is does indeed take so long until all things are settle in the powertrain. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.
