Just had mine done at my local official LR service centre at a cost of £409 all in, they also dealt with my list of warranty issues with no quibbling [new door seals, rear step, 1x anti roll bar joint etc]. The only thing they said they couldn't do was the usual flaking paint on the lower grille as their body shop is not LR approved, the job would have to go to their approved shop 50 miles away.
I usually use a main dealer 50 miles away but although they could have done the paint job they wanted over £200 more for the service IF I keep the current Puma, which could be a possibility as I'm not all that impressed with some of the QC issues with some of the latest vehicles, the next service will be done by my local independent or myself. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Local main dealer shut up shop just after I bought my first Puma in '07 which means all the remaining dealers are now 50 miles away in opposite directions so that's a 100 mile round trip [or for them to pick up / deliver] just for a service. Definitely worth a haggle though Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. My service is due also and debating as to whether to have it done at a local dealership (non LR) as my 'local' LR dealer is 30 miles away. Thinking of using Ford after all it's a Ford engine local dealer and save on fuel cost but likely to be cheaper not sure. Any thoughts?

Go to whoever is good. I have two dealerships within 10 miles but travel 30 miles to Edenbridge
I wonder if we can get hold of this list that ranks the dealerships for service from customer feedback, wonder if Lookers are allowed to show us. Edenbridge is in the top ten apparently. |

Funny you should mention that as the LR approved service centre I used this time are a Ford main dealership too and appear to have done a good job. They were certainly a lot more obliging on the remedial warranty work than the main dealer I've bought from and used for servicing in recent years, with them getting some things replaced usually involved a bit of a battle so much so it felt like the cost of warranty work was actually coming out of the warranty manager's salary, on at least one occasion I had to bypass him and take my case direct to LR who approved the replacement parts. I did most of my own using the local indys ramp and tools. He helped me on a couple of things, charged me 75 quid for the oil, filters etc and ramp use and stamped the book
Least I know it was done correctly anyway. |

Warranty work is a pain in the neck for dealers. For every job Land Rover has defined the time in which the dealer is supposed to be able to perform the job. Usually that is grossly underestimated, and the dealer obviously will need to spend the time it takes to do the job, but only gets paid from Land Rover the "allocated" time. On top of that Land Rover will not pay the dealer the same hourly rates as they charge you and me. So definitely not a feast already alone for that. I know all this for a fact, as my local LR dealer here explained the whole story in great detail to me. The punt is that if the dealer does not like this, LR blunt response is "if you don't like it, no problem, there are enough candidates around to take on a dealership...." Which surely is true with the current Evoque craze. I was at my dealer today, and they cannot keep up with preparing just received cars, no chance to leave them more than a few days in the showroom before they have to be delivered to the customer. And that includes the Disco 4, RR sport and full size RR too. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Yeah, I've done that in the past but this time wanted the warranty stuff sorting without having to make separate sets of journeys + additional days. Steve. I paid £250 for my 12 Month service at Ripon LR - they are an awesome dealership with a great 'can do' attitude.
When my 24 Month service came around I was in Germany so had to pay E475 and they also had a great attitude. I have cross referenced all the parts on the work sheet and everything in Germany is charged at twice the rate of Ripon. So with that in mind I would say Ripon would square normal customers away with a 24Month service for about £300. You will probably find the places with the better mechanics/ fitters charge less because they know what they are on about and get the job done faster!! Glyn |

Mine is due now. Have sent 2 emails this week for a quote to LR Exeter and had no reply. Guess they don't need the business. Had a quote from a local Indy for £400. Rich
