Security bolts for husky winch and bumper h
Hi there

I'm going to fit a new husky winch next week to my 110dc. I'd like to ensure it doesn't go walkies so what are the options available and what have people done to secure theirs? [/i] 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

Don’t lose too much sleep worrying about it… if anybody wants it they’ll take it.

Mine was inaccessible under the old-style steel wrap-around bull bar. The “baddies” simply went through the lot - including the plastic grille - with an angle grinder, took the winch and the bull bar cross member with the spot lamps still attached to it.

Parked near a pub, but nobody saw or heard a thing… mmmm.

Mine is secured to the bumper using Loctited studs and shearnuts; the bumper is secured to chassis in the same way.

As Birdy says, it won't stop a determined thief (who would probably take the whole vehicle anyway) but it would take a long time and be noisy to remove it, even if just cutting.

There are other active and passive countermeasures as well which I have no intention of disclosing.

I always pull my cable very tight so they wont be able to engage free spool and unwind the cable.

Not immediately bolt related but i am quite sure you'll strip the heads of the bolts under this tensioned condition.

Mine for sure as they got a spot weld for this reason.

In any case my husky wont move without the bumper being separated from the car and as the steering guard is integrated it will take them a lot a time to accomplish that.

Dont think huskies are the most attractive for thieves anyway.

if yours get stolen, send the info and SN to superwinch/david as he might get a request for a solenoid pack/remote etc once the future owner starts installing the winch. (if you relocated your solenoid pack that is)

Generally you could also wire a loop from your alarm circuits into the winch wiring.

I think spot welding all the nuts is the way forwards to deter the opportunistic thief!
