How about getting them acid stripped and powder coated? The finish would last a lot longer than paint. If I was to paint them I would probably use POR-15, as I use it on other parts of the Puma and it has lasted well.

Cost me £70 last year to have my LRS ones stripped and powder coated.

Plasticote is a cheaper option after treating the rust Rub back, ku-Rust then spray

If you are going to powder coat them, then try to round off any square edges.

I got some ruberised black spray paint from Halfords, sprayed with that, which was matt, then over the top with normal gloss black spray paint. Look loads better now.
