I have the original from new. It indeed makes a world of difference as far as light in the cabin, alone for that I would always take it.
Sofar after 3,5 years no leaks. Twice per year I will properly lubricate the rubber seals, that's all. However I do not really open it too often for ventilation purposes, opening the windows will take care of that You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Less holes in the roof the better
I wouldn't bother with one,...........The one in my 5 year old TD5 leaked as they don't seal them from new and the water leaked into the headlining destroying that, the rubbers perished and their was corrosion where the hole had been cut. The worse part was the condensation that forms on the glass dripping down your neck. In very cold weather the drips would be frozen on and drip all over you ten miles down the road when they had melted Plenty of ventilation and light in the cabin anyway |

We are prone to a little bit of condensation up here, and not too much by way of high temperatures (despite recent reports in the media)!
Are the sunroofs just tilt, or can they fully open? I've yet to be in a Defender which has one fitted (see comments above) less a VPK/Snatch and at that time there was plenty of high temperatures. |

It's difficult to tell it's leaking because the water can run straight into the headlining, they are not sealed from new so.........the water ingress guide points out how to seal

I've had Defenders with and without sunroofs and while they make the cabin appear airier they are just another potential source of leaks and breakage - I had one go in spectacular fashion on the A14 some years ago, the implosion resulting in cuts and bits of glass embedded in me noggin! Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

What git said. There is no way I would have a sunroof in a Defender. I think those boys in solihull just laugh when they have to put one in whilst slapping each other on the back and saying "yeah mr customer, good luck with that"

Are the sunroofs just tilt, or can they fully open? Tilt or take out altogether...the knob on mine used to rattle away as well when open |
