Thanks Rick

Cant wait to see us to pass each other on the road one day, it may take many years for this to happen, unlike when I drive my Prado I see about fifty every day, makes for a interesting day at the shops when you go to hop in the wrong car Laughing

Well done mate !

I havent regretted mine one bit, i,m in my mid 30's now and have been driving Landys since i was about 7 Yrs old on agritultural and private land of course.
I have had the DEFENDER in one form or another for the past 15 Years and i havent regretted owning one.

My Dad told me when i first wanted one in my early 20's that i should think long and hard about it because after all they were in fact a Road Tractor, i still think about that now when i hear people whinging and moaning about the basic interiors or the agricultural powertrain ! This clunks, the tyres are noisy, you can hear the water splashing under the rear tub from the back tyres !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts are always the same ! Twisted Evil F()CK OFF and buy something else then !

Every time i get in mine and drive off its like getting into it for the first time !

ENJOY ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

I certainly don't regret buying a new Defender 110 XS DC, what I do find annoying is the fact that it has been in the dealership for two of the three weeks I have owned it ! The 90 XS I have been loaned is a great vehicle but is not as good as a 110 in my opinion - if my memory serves me correctly !

Looking forward to Friday when 110 is supposed to be returned !

Land Rover ownership is the same as Porsche ownership - only not as expensive !
Also, Land Rover dealers do admit their vehicles have faults, with Porsche it is 'our cars NEVER have a fault' !
When my third power steering pump failed in a year Porsche still would not admit there was a problem.

At least you can see an LR engine more than can be said for a mid engined Cayman !

I'm back in the old 1991 Subaru pickup for work duties which has just tipped over the 230,000 mile mark and I've bought a new Z4 3.0Si Roadster for some summer fun!

I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure what I will ultimately replace the Defender with but I am thinking of giving an L200 aor 3dr Shogun a go as a few of the old farm boys have had these and are very happy with them. LR 90 XS GONE! Hurrah!

all cars have faults and i think the quote at the end sums it up

buy a toyota like this:quote from outback australia which is a litlle tougher on cars
"The none turbo 100 Series 1HZ have weak 5 speed manual gearboxes. The 80 Series Turbo Diesels had big end bearing failures. The 120 series Prado V6 has a well known exhaust ticking issue, a number of Hinux and 120 series Prado owners with the D4D motor have developed bad knocking issue when cold. Cracking fenders on corrugations because they are too thin. Not to mention the weak diffs."

Or

Had Troop carriers of different vintages during my time in Arnhen land. Failed diffs, Broken gearbox, and failed valve. Each fault on a different vehicle. In all cases the parts were much mopre expensive than the equivalent parts for my Disco.

In my experience any model willl break sooner or later. Sometimes for no apparent reason.
But IMO the main reasons are
1/ Poor maintenance
2/ Abuse, IE, overloaded in one form or another, trying to do what it wasnt designed to do.

The best Landy I have ever had was an 83 Rangie we aquired in Arnhem land for a favour. It was bare ally with a flat black bonnet and tailgate. No windows, no carpet. We spent $38 on it and ran it on Avgas slops. It was our hunting rig. A stamp on the side indicated the score on pigs.

That old thing made all in the community jealous as we happily went through wallows and swamp effortlessly and every so often went to pull out some who ventured too close to the swamp.

When ever there is another brand of anything out there, ther will be someone to debase or praise it. Just like Electrical items, Phones and Political Parties.

Bitter I think you misconstrue for delight and relief at finding someone who would take it off my hands Laughing

What went wrong or was wrong:

Water leaks
Intermittent loss of power
The famous grr noise
Transmission wine and would jump out of fifth gear
Heated rear and front screen failure
Headlight failure (at night!)
Poor paint finish and mis aligned panels LR 90 XS GONE! Hurrah!

Shropshire Lad,

You have every right to be unhappy with the product, However !

WATER LEAKS: All vehicles leak, you need to start worrying when you are in a boat that leaks IMHO, the added benefit of a car / van is the bulkhead shape and soundproofing material which keeps these problems away from driver / passenger view, because of the DEFENDER bulk head and the fact that they have no sound proofing means water run off is clearly visible and not obscured by a foot of dash & two inches of felt matting, altho not necesarily so on vans this feature of felt wadding is common in passenger vehicles and often goes un noticed in passenger vehicles as it lays beneath the carpet surface which can be quite often wet or damp.

INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER: Due in my case to the EGR being faulty ! if i could replace it with a blanking plate i would ! maybe something completely different in your case but i would have left it with the dealer at this point until the problem was cured and cut about in a RRS for the imbugerance.

THE FAMOUS GRR MOISE: Dunno ? mine doesent do iy "YET" and i,m not keen on finding that one ! Big Cry

TRANSMISSION WINE AND JUMPING OUT OF GEAR: That would have gone straight back backed up by "No wonder its losing power it wont stay in gear" You have a right to be P!SSED

HEATED FRONT & REAR SCREEN FAILURE: i,m no mechanic but somethings not been wired in right there for both components to fail ? Did they work & then stop or have they always been inop ? Again be P!SSED and give the dealer hell !

HEADLIGHT FAILURE: Personally if that would have been me i would have driven it thro a hedge and into a wall which would have sorted out all of the above ! i,m not condoning claim culture but one of the most important safety fetures often overlooked on vehicles is the headlights and the ability to see at night ! i would have rejected the vehicle before now and at this point would have been chasing somebodys head.

POOR PAINT FINISH AND MIS ALIGNED PANELS: Surely you would have noticed this upon collection of said vehicle ? did you mention this to your dealer ? I would have walked away at this point and ordered another at no extra cost or walked away completely. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN
