.... never really had any interest in Discos or RRs tbh, saying that I do quite like Classic RRs and early Discos. However, when it comes to D3/4s I just assumed they were for the well healed amongst us and didnt really have an off road enthusiast base until I saw this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic75607.html afte my first visit to their forum 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top

I really liked my Discovery2 TD5. If they had made a new one (with a 6-speed and with some of the gremlins ironed-out) I would have bought one.
Test-drove the D3 a few times, and never really liked it - it just didn't feel right to me. The amound of gadgets, the (standard) spare wheel location, and electrical wizardry (incl the complex suspension just waiting to go wrong as soon as the warranty expires) also scared me off... That one does certainly look good! The spare wheel mounted on the back door makes it look less like a Transit Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Never been keen on the looks/rust/reliabiltiy of the D1 would lean more towards a Land Cruiser of the period or a nice Defender
Love the looks of the D3, wouldn't touch one with a barge pole though, it would sink me if it ever went wrong and I'm abandoning the good ship Zag as it is already |

Zag.... The newer ones are pretty sorted to be honest and even my old 05 was totally reliable. Done all the stuff I did in my Defender with the D3 as well as a Tunisia trip and they have never missed a beat. There's a lot talked about electrical gremlins but the reality is most of the time this is down to £15.00 sensors on each wheel that control the tc/ abs/ ride height etc. If these get damaged then it will throw up faults but an easy fix with basic diagnostics and replacements. Loved the Defender ( my td5, not the puma) as it was Totaly bomb proof and had a sense of adventure driving it, the puma was totally unreliable, crap diffs, traction control issues and a rough engine, tansmition slop and poor build quality. Both the d3 and d4 I run have had none of these issues. Still fancy a Td5 90 as a toy if I had spare funds mind You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things |

HAHAHA he was trying, it didn't do much worse
They are a fab, fab motors, no doubt...I'd have a V8 though, no big repair bills and comparable economy. Better off road than most people think! |

My off road warrior days are long gone so I have to say that these days I prefer to generally stick with the standard look. Although I've had more Defenders I've had RR's, Disco's and others in the past too but for me the 'fenders interior generally copes better with the sort of stuff I stick inside them. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I had great fun in my disco3, banged some at2 tyres on and it went everywhere. Great at towing, I towed some crazy stuff with it. Pulled a few mates out of mud runs without a prob.
The best bit of a d3 is the split tailgate, enjoyed sitting watching cosford airshow without getting wet. |
