I'm bad for it going short distances on little roads, which is probably most of my driving, goes back to driving quads and tractors between fields I guess. However I always get it on before a "proper" road.

I always do. It just doesn't feel right to me to get in with out it on to be honest (unless just doing work off road). Remember there isn't even any airbag. only the belt and no belt well you can imagine what could happen

As Sir Jimmy used to say 'Clunk, Clip, Every Trip'
Can't understand why a short trip on a small road should be seen as any different to a longer trip a 'proper' road - accidents can happen within yards of setting off, and with side or head crashes, even at as slow speeds, seat belts help prevent injury or worse..... Why take the risk ?? ![]() ![]() |

x2 WRT seat belts, the only time I ever drive without is short journeys usually with my trailer attached, when I am in-and-out of the car frequently. It's a long story, but I do this sometimes (when the Defender is actually "working" for it's living), and it's just around the houses when I don't even get above 20mph. For all proper journeys it's clunk-click every trip... How I like not having a bleeper when the car's moving and no seatbelt - the one on my Volvo is deafening and annoying, you couldn't go more than 2 wheel rotations before it batters you into submission ![]() |

I learnt to drive with a seat belt so its a habit, I find myself putting it on the get the car out of the garage. I did own a triumph herald without belts for a while and never felt happy in it although I loved it otherwise.
A good friends daughter was killed in a head on car crash where her car had drifted to the wrong side of the road the other driver was also very badly injured, it turned out she may have been texting her boyfriend as the phone was found on her lap with a half completed text on it, I must admit I find it hard but I ignore mine now until I can safely pull over . but I have to agree you do see loads of folks whom still drive with them stuck to thier ears. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Hi there
For all of us inside the car (2nd/3rd row included) the seatbelt is a must for short or long trip. Is the first thig that we do when we entering in. A crash at 20-30 KPH can be mortal and my wife learned it in the bad way a lot of years ago. Yep, every day I count dozens of people using a mobile phone handheld. When a handsfree kit is a couple of quid it's baffling really. |

i didn't use to wear my belt much actually never did, got in a serious crash long ago two vehicles written off and a third badly damaged. no belt, thank god no one was injured. a while back started putting the seatbelt on as had to do long motorway drives and a lot of two way mountain roads, scary as hell when someone comes around the corner climbing the hill half way into your lane

Darwin was right.
Not wearing a seatbelt surely eliminates the shallow end of the gene pool? Seem to remember Andy Parsons on Mock the Week saying the same about people who go across level crossings when a train is coming... 1970 Series 2A 88" |

I rarely wore my seat belt for 27 years behind the wheel, I then bought my wife a XC90 and have always worn it since.
If you even sit in that thing without wearing your belt, it has an epileptic fit. I've been well an truly beaten into submission by a buzzer! Nick 2.2 110 Tipper |
