2.2 puma problem.?????
Hi all, Thought I would run this preblem through with you lot over there as 2.2's have been around a little longer than over here.
I am putting a low water level switch in the new puma (5 weeks old). This went well until I started looking for a positive wire with a test light that is energised by the ignition. Pulled the connector off the fuel solenoid shut off, on the firewall, found a wire however it was too short to easily link into. Found a plug above it on the firewall that had a dummy plug in it tested all 6 female connections and found power inone but decided not to use it. Then went to the fuse box under the drivers seat and found some male terminals standing proud beside the fuses. Tested these and found power in all all the time that is with the key off. Now the problem is that the thing wont start. When first turning the key to start the started engages for a brief moment the stops. When you turn the key again nothing happens. Leave it a while and the same thing happens. Have gone over the fuel soleniod plug that I unhooked. I can hear a electronic noise under the bonnet for a short time then it stops.
Nearest dealer 200 kilometers away.
Assistance appreciated.

Really long shot - did you blow a fuse when testing for the live feed ?

There are some really strange electrics on the Puma's and blowing a fuse can have some very strange effects - I learnt the hard way Embarassed

TBH when you are "looking" for a positive feed, try the wiring diagrams - it will save you a fortune. Wiring diagrams are available to download from the forum .. otherwise look on the back of the alternator... good luck and don't blow yourself up !

You sure you haven't tripped the immobilizer?

May of 'sensed' it as an attempted hotwire.

Try locking it up with the fob and unlocking it again after a minute or two Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

By playing around with the hot wires you might have blown the engine electronics ... if you are lucky, you just killed the immobilizer. Try making the whole car powerless for at least 4 hours and hope it reboots well to start. If not, cry. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

Thanks Dave H, locked it then unlocked it and it started. Had the engine warning light come on but after a couple of starts it went out. Still to work out which wire to hook it to.
Thanks all.

When I picked up new my Disco Td5 there was a similar Td5 getting a complete wiring harness and electronics 14k$ back in 2k. I asked why what was the reason? apparently the Auto leccy hacked into a wire looking for a 12V feed for a CB and cooked the lot. What it appeared to be 12v, was a computor control millivolt job.
