Have you checked out Australian quarantine regulations?
They are not keen on wood coming into the country. Can you PROVE that all the timber is treated to Australian standards? Sorry, not wishing to upset anyone but basically (unless regulations have changed) the Australian customs will not allow non treated wood into the country. It is better to check carefully now before Australian customs impound vehicle! A quick check found THIS and
If they suspect your vehicle does not conform to their regulations they will impound your vehicle. Brendan |

Yep, as soon as I started looking at those pics I was thinking, hope this isn't for an Australia trip! As Brendan says, it can be a big problemo!
I am currently designing the shelving/storage for my 90 to go to Oz in a couple of years and not going to use any wood, to be on the safe side. We've also been through Oz customs with a Land Rover before and it wasn't easy and no fun! Hugely stressful. One of the guys in Sydney was a real jobs worth. Don't think painting the wood would have got past that guy! He had everything out of the vehicles, winch ropes uncoiled, one guy in our party had to untape and remove the convoluted tubing on his engine wiring.... took over 3 hours to check them, wash them to his satisfaction and finally pass them after fine-tooth comb peering, prodding, tutting everything - inside, outside, kit, everything. We had thought they were clean enough when we packed them in the container, but not even close to what he wanted. |

That looks great Would love to do the same, been dreaming of doing something similar to each Landy I have owned but never have the free time to justify it for travel. Can't even get up to Scotland
Keep us posted on your travels |

Awesome pics !
Hope to be able to post similar in a couple of years. We are looking for pretty similar set-up - 90 with roof tent, etc. I know the 'sensible' option is a 110 but as we had already rebuilt my 90 and know it nut and bolt it seems the better option than starting all over with another vehicle which would have eaten into the budget! We will just have to be economical with what we take - needs over wants! |

Fantastic, I like the orange, keep it bright. What are you doing for in interior ilumination?
Trailers look pretty handy to that end, this is a fantastic build up from a Sankey Chassis http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic47201-690.html (I'm sure many people have seen it already) Good things come to the wild and free |

We were very close to doing the trailer thing. They look great. That was when we were expecting to go in our 100" challenge motor that we used there before in 08 on the Outback Challenge. It was OK for the 8 days camping on the comp, but not really the most comfy or roomy for a longer trip. Plus then it all started looking quite complicated to build our own and ship it, what with the wood issue with quarantene and because over there trailers usually need to be 'road legal' and have their own rego system.....
So then we decided on hiring a Australian camping trailer whilst we were there - they have some awesome ones, jazzy off-road suspension, and really good spec. Would have been about the same money to hire one as to build one. One of these was favourite - http://www.australianoffroadcampers.com.au/hire-the-odyssey.html Then we decided to look at using my newly rebuilt 90 instead and as there is just the 2 of us, we didn't need huge amounts of space. Plus we didn't want a heavy trailer hampering where we could go either, as although they are great off-road they can be an issue at times on softer ground and also you aren't actually allowed to take them on some of the trails and tracks we might want to go on. So then it came down to roof tent or Oz Tent. A decent sized stand-up in Oz Tent has a big pack size and would mean getting it on and off the roof rack all the time. We also fancied the idea getting up off the ground anyway, what with wildlife, rough ground and the 'big wet' arriving, so a trip to Billing (in the pouring rain!) last summer decided us finally on getting a roof tent and also which one (Howling Moon, when it eventually gets here from S.Africa!). Perhaps the next project will be a 110 though - like the idea of a camper with lift-up roof ! |
