Raised air intake Snorkle Yes or No
OK, firstly and I may get shot down in flames for this I'm not after fitting this for what it can do purely for looks....

Now that's out of the way what's people opinions on these Snorkels? Interesting just asked a work colleague and they said it looks stupid, like a plastic elephants trunk.. I did ask I guess.

My cars black so I thought it would blend in better. Its this snorkel. Also could it be colour coded? or would the paint crack?

so yes its good or no its an elephant...

If you like it, do it.

Both of mine already had them on, like most bolt-ons, once it's been done it would look worse to remove.

I have seen one of these painted, but the problem with all plastic that is colour coded is the possibility of flex and the paint not being done very well to start with. Looks fine at first, a year or so later, not so good. 2016 D4 HSE

As above, if you like it and want one, get one - its your money

The only caveat to the above is if it will limit your access to any garages/car parks you currently use which have height restrictions (I am assuming the snorkel protrudes above the roof line?)
Thumbs Up

Be aware that some people say it reduces power...
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic31115....rkel+power

I have also read somewhere else that they can INCREASE power!!! Apparently by drawing cooler air!!!

Anyway - worth a read at the post I put above...

^ is it any higher then the roof?

Doesn't look it, I don't have a roof rack so could make a difference if higher in car parks,

Thanks

The genuine Land Rover accessory version (very similar to the Mantec after market version) has a less high mushroom top air intake part than the Mantec after market mushroom top. I know the genuine RAI is not higher than the 2.03 meter standard height of the rear of a 110 SW. With the Mantec mushroom clearly a bit higher I don't know how many cm that adds. Ask Mantec I would suggest, they surely must have received that same question already a gazillion times.
Eric

Here a few pictures of the genuine. Compare with the Mantec after market mushroom version...

You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Granted you are fitting it for looks - but you do not need to compromise on functionality. Get one that looks good and does the job.

In my opinion that one does neither.

Here's my first one on my TD5, it had "Safari" stamped on the side

And here is my current one on the Puma, it is a Mantec branded one. I prefer it. If you look at the side on profile picture it looks almost the same height, I can't see why Mantec would design it and make it higher than the car itself and therefore making it vulnerable off road and in 'situations'.

My Safari is in primer now, it's a sod to do due to the awkward shape!

Cant see any issues with flex as it's very rigid indeed.

which ones does the job? the safari ones as it comes with a different connector through the wing? you can fit the nugget or D44 solutuions to seal the Mantec one. Cheers
