Do you have it in writing that they will sort the base out ?
If you have, go in with all guns blazing Phone the principal and give him **** anyway, they will probably struggle to sell the vehicle with a damaged seat base and are just trying it on. Sounds like the salesman made a rash comment amount replacing it and now the Branch Manager has got wind of it and the cost involved - tough. Presume it's just out of warranty if not they don't have a leg to stand on anyway!
There is a dealership feedback section on this site |

So, they are not replacing the seat base,, and it won't be ready on time as agreed ??? I smell a rat Whether in writing or not,, you have a message on your phone, with someone at the dealer now saying they can now not replace the seat base,, evidence enough that it was part of the deal !! Going in "all guns blazing" rarely gets anyone anywhere, at least to start with California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

The issue of the seat base and the cover being replaced (not repaired as they now want to do) was written down on the salesman's sheet 'worksheet' along with the Full Service and removing the rear window guards. I've just looked and I don't have it written down on my sales receipt...damm.
Roll on 9am Wednesday. Should I not get anywhere I will name and shame. It's a tiny issue for them but will lose them my custom to service it and my uncles order for a D4 - I've just rang him and told him what's happened and he's 40k will be going elsewhere - probably a Merc unfortuantley... Cheers, Superspoons |

Good luck when you do give it a go. Why a Merc? How about a different dealer they're not all the same luckily. Not always the same prices either |

i'd ring them at 0800hrs and keep going from then, i expect people are in from 0730, plus email them now to say you are calling etc etc.
i would not go all guns blazing just point out the error of their ways and that you want it sorted and need the vehicle thur unless they will meet the 3rd party costs. can they not take a seat cover off another vehicle? i am assuming its a front one. I would suggest to the dealer principal that their actions are perfectly reasonable - they did not at the time realise how much the additional expense will hurt them.
Of course, you have now had chance to consider your own position and similarly you have decided that financially you may have over committed yourself and so are now going to give them £300 less to make u feel better about yourself. Or just find another in used car stock swap the fekr over. C 2015 110 USW XS in Santorini with premium contrast leather seats in tan/black, black headlining and with Dual Finish alloys (in the garage, now on Wolf rims with Goodyear MT/Rs) 2012 '62' 2.2 X-Tech 110 USW now gone ... 1984 90 soft top with full roll cage, 200 tdi engine etc now sold 2012 USW XS 2.2 "FUU" now gone.... |

Before anything else, find out the price of a new seat base and also speak with a trimmer about a replacement base. To be honest, if a decent trimmer repairs the base it will probably be better than a factory made base; the problem is that they will find it hard to find the correct centre trim.
I would not go guns blazing but I would offer to reject the car on the basis that the original terms of sale have not been met. If you do, they must return the deposit. |

Ahhh, there is pushing the dealer to which you are entitled of course, however if the defender was right in all other respects I would evaluate whether I would want to resume the search for another vehicle over a seat base. It's still barking of the dealer though. Maybe you really spanked into their margin on the negotiation bit Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?" I would Reply: "Duratrac" |

Dave, agreed. It's a good 110 but what has really ****ed me off is the 'not cost effective to replace' after agreeing to do it. It's bird seed to them but I want a seat that isn't split along the side. Not too much to ask for given the sales of LR's these days. I did strike a good deal I was happy with ...up until now.
I just can't understand their mentality - am I likely to buy from them a 3rd time or get it serviced there based on this.... answer on a postcard Cheers, Superspoons |

Is there not some misunderstanding here, I read the post as the dealer is replacing the seat base, else why is there a delay in delivery, they state " delivery will be Friday because of replacing the seat base". I would clarify what is actually happening before going in guns blazing. Richard Either a 90, 110 or 130. Discovery 5 |

Hi Richard,
Initially that's what I requested - a new drivers seat base. I then agree to having just the seat base cover replaced as they said it was too expensive to replace the whole base as the seat base has a heater element in it (blah blah) ... Now they want to repair the existing seat base not recover it at that's too expensive too. Part of the deal was to to replace the cover on the seat base - not repair it. Cheers, Superspoons |
