Mine shows if moving all the time unless (like for the last two weeks) I have the EGR closed patch in then it just shows 0% all the time. Sound like something is not right.

I've been watching my egr%, no engine mods and it's intersting to see what is going on. it's open more often that i thought it would be. seems if the engine is not being pushed, it's open a little.
i don't have any problems with performance or unusual sounds, clunks clicks etc i guess the engineers at land rover know what's best ? |

I have a ScanGauge and the %EGR fluctuates all the time. For instance when the engine is running idle the %EGR ranges between 15% and 25%. I really do not know if this oscillation is due to the sensitivity of the instrument or the EGR valve goes like a crazy

is it fair to assume that once the egr finishes its self clean cycle when the engine is turned off the erg fully closes?
thinking about disconnecting the egr again for a while to so how the engines performs? |

I am running a standard tune with egr shut patch at the moment to see how it compares with running with it operating normally. Been three weeks so far and is not what I expected. |

what were you expecting? I ran that same map during a 6000km overlanding trip and it performed as expected -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

early days yet but it looks like fuel consumption has gone up which really surprised me and seems to be nosier than before. However like I said only been about three weeks so will give it another week and I have a bit of running about this weekend with quite a few miles involved so i reserve my judgement for another week.

I have not used the EGR capability on my scangauge until an MIL warning came up 400km into a 4500km trip. The MIL went out after four start cycles and was good for another 1200km then came on again and went out and stayed out for the rest of the trip. I found that the EGR would run at 15-25% most of the time but would stick on 100% and stay there once or twice a day until I swithched off the vehicle and restarted it after which it would work in the 15-25% range again. No MIL was flagged when the EGR stayed at 100%. I could tell by ear when the EGR was at 100% as the engine did not sound sweet compared to normal running, especially under light throttle.
I replaced the EGR valve with a new one. It will be interesting to see what it does. I purchased a new EGR after the MIL came on just in case the original one failed as I was travelling in outback areas 900 km from a dealer. I am glad I did not replace it on the run as it was a little fiddly to do. Took about two hours to change but having done it once it would take 1/3 - 1/2 the time if I have to do it again. |

I hope I'm not jumping in here but would really appreciate some advice.
Recently got a 2011 2.4, and it does the " Chugga, chugga, chugga" thing when i switch the engine off. Is that the EGR going through the cleaning cycle, and is it supposed to happen? Many thanks Alister |

Is your 2012 Puma a 2.2? If so then you may get a difference in operation/readings to a 2.4 due to the DPF and ECU fuelling parameters. Also when you first plugged in the ultragauge what Protocol was identified? Mine was 11 Bit CAN on a 2009 2.4. If it is a 2.4, again what protocol was recognized? Did you manually change the protocol settings by accident or intentionally? Brian. |
