Hi guys!
OK, so we have introduced the TPMS systems here ; http://www.defender2.net/forum/post130499.html#130499 Up next, the camera systems, built extremely tough and were designed to be best in class, period. To back that statement up, we fitted a kit, in 2010, on a Dakar rally truck to see what they could endure and they passed with flying colors.  
We are very proud to say that our cameras are being installed as OEM equipment by several European vehicle manufacturers (going from tow-trucks to underground mining equipment, to side loader reach trucks)Mostly niche markets were other systems can't endure the rough conditions of everyday use. To see some of these examples please visit our website. So if you might be looking for a kit, that will only set you back a few hundred bucks or quid, please stop reading here.. we can't help you. You should not have any difficulties finding something like that on Ebay. Are you looking for a kit that uses the best components available providing the biggest bang for your buck, then we can help you. Cameras The cameras are all IP69K and 30G vibration proof, and like most things in life it's in the details. For example the brackets for the CMT77-HD cameras are stainless steel, with stainless steel screws, come with a rubber gasket that is very easy to install. The connectors (o-ring sealed) for the camera cables can be tightened down with a wrench unlike other connectors. Our cables are made from the good kind of rubber, not the hard plastic kind, cables are shielded etc etc...  
The CMT45-HD is a camera designed to be as discrete as possible, no exposed wires, this can be mounted as a 'high mount' or inverted as shown on the pictures here below. You can mount the camera to best fit your needs ; for hitching, or just backing up.   
Monitors As far as monitors go we do carry a few options, but we suggest the 5.6'' size CMT5600D monitor, again these monitors are built to a higher standard and shows both in build quality as well as performance. For example the viewing angles of our monitors are extreme compared to others. Also besides a T-slot style mounting we also have incorporated the AMPS hole pattern, so that you can fit your own RAM-mount or Panavise mounting solution. Using a suction cup mount for mobile applications, or dashboard mount, we have some mounting options on Defenders here below. In cabin monitor suggestions :    
Compatible with high-end GPS systems Another option is if you have a high-end GPS unit, like Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, etc that has a AV-input, we have a special adaptor cable that allows you to connect our cameras to your existing GPS unit. As long as we do not have an official partner in the UK, you can ask us for a qoute directly, a basic kit (CMT5600D monitor with CMT77-HD camera) retails for 592,00 Euros excl VAT and shipping and comes as a complete kit with 5 or 10m camera cable. Complete overkill  :
Because the Defender 130 I am blessed with is sort of the poster child of our camera systems, I installed the 7 inch, quad and IP65 monitor (CMT704Q-HD) Please see below pics. And Yes, I am fully aware this setup is COMPLETE overkill nonetheless, I'm pretty happy  I'm thinking of buying a Garmin GPS unit that hooks up to my AV-in (also possible on the CMT5600 model) so that I don't have to clutter the interior all that much.

Putting the monitor behind the sun visor maybe an opton for those that want it just for reversing etc.
As you suggest I think it is better with all the gadgets with information to invest in a flip up screen from your music system and put your GPS, Sat-Nav, camera picture, vehicle mechanical gauge data etc all on one screen system if it is possible  |

Carlos, I like the camera CMT45-HD. Good enough for me as I intend to use it as a reverse drive camera, so not really a problem that I do not see my tow hitch itself.
Interesting comment you make about high end GPS units possibly usable as monitor. My SVX has ex factory a Garmin Nüvi 750 installed on the dash. Is it possible to wire this so that I can see the picture of the reverse camera when backing up? That would be a fantastic solution if possible. If the Nüvi 750 which goes back to 2008 cannot show this image, would it be possible with a more recent Nüvi model? Ideally I want to avoid to put a second monitor/screen in the car, the current one is just a perfect installation. Tks for a word, Eric You never actually own a Defender. @ SGH, thanks for the positive feedback
Putting an extra monitor in the cab is a somewhat of an issue, that's true. You could search the www for a rearview monitor mirror and hook up a camera of your choice, most of them will work with RCA connections. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&a...Categories
In regards to the Ipad, I honestly don't know if Apple has a adapter that accepts RCA(tulip) video-IN. Perhaps somebody else can jump in on this matter? @Zagato, behind the sunvisor, nice one! Had not thought of that one! Indeed, a nice All-in-one 1DIN system that slides out with a flip up display would be the way to go.
@Ericvv, the Garmin model I was referring to is the Garmin GVN53 that is only a GPS module-interface, I will use my own monitor that I have installed to display the GPS, instead of displaying the camera on my GPS I don't think Garmin has a model that supports the AV-in feature.  It's a feature that is mostly found on the 'built-in' models.

Carlos, about a camera built into the sunvisor... Take a look at the follwing thread and click the link to the thread in a German forum, then scroll down to 2 of the pictures somewhat lower in that post.....

If that would be possible for you guys to do, I would happily bring my car over to you guys this summer. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

@ ericvv, I had a look at the topic you sent me there, nice looking defender, it's a nice idea,
but I wonder if it would be 'pleasant' to look at with the monitor 'all up in your face'? Anyway, I'm sure we will find a solution that's suits your needs by the summer Sunvisor monitor is not a problem.

Please bear in mind, our systems are developped to outperform any other system on the HEAVY DUTY - Industrial market. As stated on our website, we advise ; DARE TO COMPARE! Next time when browsing the web, try to compare the IP-protection grade (IP69K is the only one that is high-pressure cleaning resistant) the VIBRATION-rating, something very different than 'SHOCK'-rating, Image sensors (1/3 vs 1/4 or Sharp CCD vs Sony Super HAD CCD) etc etc It's like buying a computer, both 'boxes' might look the same from the outside, but it's the guts that count! Thanks for your post/e-mail Our website is currently down for maintenance (the server where our site is hosted was under attack, and had comprimised our website, displaying all sorts of adds for viagra etc) We are still actively involved in the HD-camera monitor game, and are doing our best to get the website up and running ASAP. I don't know how off the grid this idea may be but, as a lot of satnavs support these sd cards would it be possible to make up a plug to fit the sd slot and instead of the device(satnav etc) reading the information from the card, use it to feed say a reverse camera or the like. After all the card can provide a recorded video play so why not a live feed?

Not a bad idea at all, I had thought of using the SD card slot a while back, since they are selling the SD cards with WiFi built-in to upload your pictures directly from your camera, I thought it would be nice to use that to stream the image wirelessly. However all of this would increase cost a lot. And because most the 'high-end' navi systems like Kenwood, Pioneer etc all have a dedicated rear-cam input we can use a connection cable to hook it up at a much lower cost than a wireless option, and without any interference. You still can't beat the image feed fed through a double shielded data cable. ATB Carlos www.comatra.eu |
