As I understand it the rust check has to be done by a main dealer.
So ring 2 or 3 main dealers and get various quotes. Do the same on a couple of independent ones then get one of main dealers to price match. The counter staff at one main dealer let slp they have the authority to price match by up to 15% off their own bat. Have warranty work done at same time as service might make them more inclined to drop service price Brendan PS NO I have not taken my own advice |

£500 that's what my local main dealer quoted - but I have free servicing in Switzerland - came with the car.

Paid £380 In January for the first service. The second larger service is £500 ...Harwoods, Edenbridge
Happy to pay the extra for peace of mind that it is done properly...Jeremy the mechanic really knows his Defenders and is quite happy to let you watch and talk to him while he does the work. I don't know of anybody near me that I can take my motor to but will have to find somebody for eventual bigger jobs. Probably Gigglepin but they are a long way away |

Getting a main dealer to do a service is no guarantee that'll it ll be done right, believe me. But if you know the guy who's doing it then fair enough. Still, there's still no way I would pay dealer prices for a service, no way at all. If you get a good relationship with an Indy it's worth its weight in gold. He actually needs your business, whereas the dealer just wants to bend you over.
LR, go to an independent landrover place that, not Halfords. |

Be careful that LR will accept the corrosion inspection done by a third party. GS in Brizzle are my preferred dealer for all work. 110 D250 SE HT

YEs, ex LR tech, but wouldn't do it again. I wasted a day with him. Easier to go back to GS and thrash their Audi loaner 110 D250 SE HT

Main dealer services are totally out of my league, but this ad popped up on my facebook - worth a look if you want a main dealer service

Definitely worth having a ring around for the cheapest in your area. On my first service just before Christmas I saved £105 by not going to Lookers who are outrageously expensive. The woman there then winds me up by saying 'let me speak to the manager to see if we can do something on the price'. I then pointed out that if they were competitive in the first place then they would probably have got my business.
