Unable to select high range
We were off roading today and my mate had a bit of of an issue with his transfer box. Its a D90 300tdi.

Once back at the car park he found he couldn't select high range, the lever moved but would only go to neutral or low range. It had been getting more difficult to select high range for a while, long before his clutch problems, we changed the clutch a couple of weeks ago. He's thinking it might be just a wee adjustment of the linkage needed. It had been fine in high range all the way to the site, and it is fine in low range and difflock low range, so its not a gearbox problem but transfer box. The lever is now really sloppy and won't even deselect low range.

Where does he start looking. Any advice greatfully received.

I would definitely look at the adjustment on the linkage first and then the sloppiness in the linkage before you start looking at anything more serious.

On the top of the t box there is a sort of half domed cylinder type of thing that the linkage attaches to it's held on by 6 bolts iirc. Open it and look inside there is a shaft inside a fork type thing, it is secured by a grub screw. If you are lucky the screw will need to be tightened up if not it will be in the box somewhere and you will need a new one. Either way centre and drivers seats out and covers off should be enough to get to it. Hth. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

That's the sort of thing I was hoping to hear, a little hope, thanks.

Won't get a chance to look until Friday but I'll post photos for anyone else in this position, hopefully with it all fixed, fingers, toes and everything else crossed. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

So I've taken the tunnel out and the problem was immediately obvious, the linkage that goes from the selector lever to the selector shaft has broken beside the adjuster nut, it is quite narrow there.

This is right below the front edge of the seat box on the right hand side, you can see both parts hanging down here

and perhaps a little easier here

This is the cover where the selector arm is, I needed to take it off to get to the clip holding the pin and also checked the grub screw I have heard so much about

This is the grub screw, nice and tight

and the hole where it fits on top of
