2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Stornoway Grey
2.2 in second gear
I have a 2.2 which I got new in January, the problem is when I am changing down into second gear, say turning of the main road into a housing area. It hiccups like !!!!, it is so bad that you either have to nearly stop and go into first or nearly stall and go into 3rd. It is the same when you drive it in town. I got rid of a TD5 to get this so I am not a first time defender driver but it is nearly un-drivable in second gear. I would like to know if anyone on here has had a similar problem and maybe a solution before I have to take it back to the dealers and get there uninterested attitude.

As a past Defender driver we can discount your driving style so it sounds as though you need to take it back to the dealers for a test drive with the mechanic. If it's that bad they will need to sort it!

The only thing to say is that new gearboxes can be tight and clunky-ish at first then soon ease off after 500 - 1000 miles depending on the driving e.g. town or motorway! BUT yours sounds to be undriveable.

Jayaway, had my 2.2 for a couple of weeks now. no such problem so perhaps a visit to the stealer Big Cry I have found the 2.2 unit to be excellent, almost refined Rolling with laughter . good luck
