Snow cover - with or without the grill?
I'm just fitting some plate to my wings and had to remove the Entreq snow cover. I realise I fitted it over the original grill.
Do people usually do this or does the grill come off?

My heating has been pretty weak since I had the 110 (snow cover on from new) but maybe this is the cause - restricted flow...

What are the chances of my airbox getting crudded up with leaves and Censored up if I take the grill off under the cover?

Cheers for opinions Thumbs Up

I fitted mine over the original grill and have not experienced any issues with the heating.

P.S. I think you are meant to leave the original grill in place.

I have kept my grill on also but Entreq now do a gasket to go under the snow cover, it doesn't impede airlflow Thumbs Up

I fitted my Entreq one with the gasket and with the original grille in place. I've noticed no change in performance at all. My thinking was that if I left the grille in place it would stop most debris from getting in, and by using their gasket (between the grille and the snow cover), it would stop pooled water on top of the wing from running down any gaps and getting into the pipework. Seems to all work nicely too.

With chequer plate on the wings, I took the grill off. I made a foam rubber gasket to go under the flange of the snow guard (and the blanking plate on the other wing) so that it fits neatly against the irregular surface of the chequer plate. Darren

Many thanks all Thumbs Up

So I can either fit the plastic guards over the plate (packing underneath) with snow cover on top; or...

just fit the plate over the top of the plastics (easier) - does this look crap? I've never looked at other people's close up Wink

Cheers

I have read in a number of places that you can improve heating/airflow by fitting a vent that directs more air into the heater. so I guess the snow cover can have the opposite effect?

This is how mine looks fitted as described above:

It maintains a uniform gap and follows the contours of the wing perfectly.

The rubber gasket is designed to lift the snow cover up higher to compensate for the extra height of the chequer plate and to maintain the flowing curve around the wing. The cover is also designed to be fitted on top of the existing plastic grill so why would you remove it? As to airflow restriction? I've had mine on for a year or two now with know noticeable degradation in the heater air flow output.

Mounted on top of plastic grill:

Mounted on top of plastic grill along with the additional rubber gasket which lifts the cover up to the same height as the chequer plate (if fitted Whistle ) whilst keeping the curve of the wing:

And doing the job it was designed for:

The cut-out in chequer plate matches the size of the hole in the wing rather than the outer edge of the grill, so the grill and/or snow guard fit on top. There isn't any requirement to compensate for the extra height of the chequer plate.

I'm not sure what the point of the gasket is in standard trim, as the guard is fixed down onto a flat surface and the nature of the design means there's no need to seal it against anything. I suppose it would protect the paint if you removed the grill and fitted it directly to the wing. When fitted on top of chequer plate though, a gasket can even out the irregularities of the 'chequers'. I made one out of thick-ish sticky-backed neoprene and if the Entreq gasket is soft enough then I guess it'd do the same.

I removed mine because it didn't seem to serve much purpose anymore. With the snow guard in place, nothing can fall down the heater duct and the fan isn't up to drawing any significant debris up through the guard. If left in place, it just presents an unnecessary restriction. Darren

The rubber gasket was designed by Olaf to complement his chequer plate design. When I enquired about the reason for needing the rubber gasket in the first place, my reply above was the answer I received from him. Thumbs Up

Ah, then his design must differ from that of Land Rover or most other manufacturers. The one shown above on mine is Mammoth and the guard is definitely fitted on top. Darren

Cheers guys! The wax I've been using is the remains of a little tub of 'Swissol'' who are now called 'Swissvax' (http://www.swissvax.co.uk/). It cost me about £90 back in 2001 Shocked but you only need a tiny amount, and you apply it directly with your fingers. I reckon the tub will last another 5 years (I only apply it about twice a year) so I reckon it will work out being quite good value. Smells good enough to eat too!

On the grille, I tend to get a bit of a 'Marmite' reaction - people either love it or hate it (and some purists I've met really hate the SVX look!). I loved the look the very first time I ever saw it in the options brochure. So, I ordered the kit to be fitted to the 90 before I took delivery from the dealer when it was new.
