I use solidworks and for me its very very nice. It was easy to start with (from zero cad experience).
here are some pictures of stuf that I created with zero guidance: The first thing I ever drew. An 1:8th scale electric loco: Exhause sadle piece for a 1:3 scale fowler steam engine, this was quite challenge because the guidance lines for the loft needed to be 3D lines. Especially with the new (for me) CAM plugins. Scaling the real deal. |

I learned on Pro-Engineer and made the switch to Inventor, found it very similar really. Bit of a world away from AutoCAD though, cos the latter is not parametric. I couldn't believe how basic it was when I had to learn it! It's really just a computerised drawing board.
Not sure if any of that helps you. One thing I would say is that I found AutoCAD 10x harder to use than either Inventor or ProE. |

I used Autocad from the beginning of the times (25 years ago at least) and some time ago I start to use the Inventor also to see how its work and it is a complete different beast more related to the piece design than can be bolted/welded to a make an structure. Is esay for the mechanical design and if you have to join pieces but for architecture could be more complicated. Maybe the best way, before buy it is to suscribe yourself to the Autocad University (Free), download the student version of the Inventor (the same that the original but under 3 years license, and also free) and take some courses there to see if really works for you. Ohhhh Autocad
I spent many a night using Autocad 13 when at Ag college '92-'95. Typically got a job where computer knowledge wasnt required and longed for a copy of Autocad. 13 years later, my wish came true Here lay the problem.........I hadnt a clue how to start using it |
