Tracing an electrical fault
Although not my first priority for the Land Rover, the JVC CD radio has an issue.

I switch it on, it stays on for about ten seconds then switches itself off, then on again, and just keeps doing this until eventually it won't come on at all. Ideally I'd like a newer head unit that can take an Aux input and a USB drive. (CD's are a bit old hat now eh?)

I know that this could be the head unit itself, but I am guessing it won't be as easy as that, and will be a wiring issue, such as an intermittent supply issue, loose connection or dry joint in a connector plug - all my inexperienced guesswork (but sounds quite convincing Very Happy )

So, after I pull out the head unit, can anyone give me any tips on how to find an electrical problem like this. I do have a half decent multimeter.

I've learnt loads tonight about soldering in my other thread, hoping you can help me with this one too.

I once had a JVC cd radio that used to turn itself on by itself unless it had a cd in it Exclamation Confused

I sold the vehicle/radio to my brother and it went wrong recently as it would not respond to anything you tried to input into it so could be a common similar JVC head unit fault?

Suspect the Head unit has a fault rather than a wiring issue. Richard

Normally the radio units need +12V ignition (ON with key) and +12V permanet (battery), check the corrispondence with the radio pin out. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

I had a similar problem. It was a cheapo Aldi head unit and I had to pull the head unit out, pull off the plug connector on the back of the head unit, put it back on and hey presto, until the next time!

Cured by replacing the head unit with a new JVC one.
