Ireland 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
the other day I noticed that once you have driven for about 10 minutes and then stop, if you have the heating on at full blast while idling the engine you can see the temperature gauge drop to between normal and cold (after a few minutes stationary). This soon goes back to normal when you start driving again. It must be that the heater pulls so much heat from the coolant that idling isn't enough to maintain it. Never noticed that in other vehicles

Thanks to Webasto no more cosy Defender, after pressing the remote this morning in combination with only short driving distances during last days the battery went on strike. Was one hour late for ice-scating with the kids after the clip of the jump lead broke in half due to the low temperatures. After that I was cursing when i had to remove the console of the scheelmanns to reach the battery for charging with my icecold hands.

I was a bit worried about Standheizung (aux.heating) for precisely this reason. I killed 2 batteries in one winter in our VW T3 Bus because the Eberspächer heating kept running them down (plus it needed a new glowplug or something every year). I also did a lot of short trips but I think it was a crappy design anyway (as was much of the earlier T3s).

Hope you get it sorted.

Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
