My hangover has subsided so I went to check out the National Luna dual monitor and it showed the main battery as only 12v.

Took off the seat and plugged the Ctek croc clips onto the main battery and switched charger to AGM cycle.
N.B. the ignition is off.

Now the monitor is showing that both batteries are charging, which I did not expect? I thought it would only charge the main battery.......how come it can do both?

Sorry if my question sounds dumb but I'm clueless about electrickery.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

if the ctek pushes more than 13.8v, then the battery management system should control the charging of both batteries - because the VSR will join them

So the nat luna battery monitor joins the batteries as the main one has full voltage (more than 13.somethingV)

If i remember correctly you can set the trigger voltage on this system but then you have to open it up, void your warrantee and find the right resistor. Too long ago to remember how it looked inside.

Its a typical problem with this unit (set for classic batteries) and the higher voltage of AGM batteries, i had the same issue with my discovery and dual optima's before.

Can leave you with 2 half batteries after connecting the c-tek. Well, should be sorted after about 60 hours of charging as then both will be full again.

Would recommend you to put a manual switch between the batteries so you can isolate them when charging.

Paul - the national luma battery management system is doing what it is supposed to do, it will manage the charging of the batteries for you. To be honest, why not run the truck for a few weeks, keeping an eye on the NL display showing the state of the batteries? These battery management systems are very good, currently other forum members are in extreme cold temperatures in the arctic circle running the same system as you and as far as we can tell they are fine. whoever owned your truck before you knew what they were doing. most of us just have a single battery and run fine. enjoy your truck!

Thanks BPMan,
the charger has now finished, it took 7 hours roughly. After disconnecting the Ctek, the dual monitor shows both batteries as above the normal mark now - it's too dark to read the exact voltage.

The car started up straight away and all seems well.

I think I'm gonna fit the Ctek standard lead to the main battery and trail the connector outside the seat box. Then I won't have to lift the seat base to do a recharge in future!
Cheers,
Paul

Well let's just say he made it ok, although it was an interesting route he took. He did manage to explore one of our local green lanes on his way, so not exactly the fastest route. He did mention something about his sat nav.
