Question for the Leccys here:
Just fitting my new (rather old) Recaro orthopaedic seat with pumps, heating etc. The Puma already has heated seats with a 20A fuse but the Recaro is rated at 30A. How risky is it just to up the fuse to 30A? I could just go straight to the battery with an in-line fuse but would rather use the existing wiring... Via the ignition being switched to on the over all circuit is protected by a 60 amp fuse. The 20 amp fuse is a tap off to provide the supply for the heaters, the circuit also switches in a header earth for the windows. Are the Recaros thermostatically controlled or are they just straight on/off. If they are thermostatically controlled I would say yes it is ok to just replace the 20 amp with a 30 amp. If not you need to determine the actual current draw of the Recaros. Current = Voltage divided by resistance. If you can measure the resistances of the Recaro heater and pump circuits and you can then work it out. A constant 30 amps in my opinion is too much for the size of 1mm cable I believe is currently fitted. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Cheers guys - thanks for dragging my mind out of coma
I've just dismantled, re-stitched and "renovated" much of the wiring and air tubing (long night) but no sign of a thermostat  (
They were "made in West Germany", so a looong time ago  Still in good nick though 
I will wire them up to a regulated 12V supply, dig out the multimeter, switch on the heating, motors, balloons etc. all at once and measure the current. Will have to allow for the passenger heated seat though... Really hope this works out - the standard LR seats kill me (even with pads). These are cheap replacements at 200 quid (all nice leather). Have a good weekend. Later... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
