Its not drop down anymore
![]() The pictures with the canvas back on were from Summer 2008 in the Alps, we had only had the truck 3 weeks so mods were limited to a storage draw and some roof bars. I converted the tailgate to a side openeing one, and fitted a drop down table to cook on (not pictured here) ![]() Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

I am quite attached to the boxes for a number of reasons, not least that they were free and are very robust.
Depending on where we are going we normally use: 1 large box and 1 half sized box for food, 1 for bedding items (which could move to the shelf) 1 for tools 1 for recovery gear 1 for the BBQ and compressor I can fit 3 accross the load area, so I need to stack at least 2 of them up. For longer trips with spares taken, the number of boxes increases If I swapped them for bigger boxes I would spend as much time digging to the bottom of a box with more in it as I do now getting to the bottom boxes! 2002 Defender 110 DC |

I like the idea of the shelf, i'm not sure I want get rid of the interior trim, id swap my side panels for hard top sides any day of the week, i just dont want compromise between the two... I should of bought a hardtop but my personal situation at the time needed more than two seats...
Do you use the rear seats in the cab Ben? I'd remove them and use that as storage too..... |

I have removed the single seat and repalced that with a fridge mount for my Engel and unless we are going for a long trip we generally just fold the double seat forward and put our bags in the space, held down with a load net.
If I take the seats out I can fit 2 more Euroboxes behind the seats. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

I got some great plastic stacking boxes a few years ago which fit between the wheel arches perfectly, several different sizes and heights which all fit together, quite cheap and robust, clip lock lids and metal hinges.
When stacked they become quite a rigid unit which is easily sapped down. I'll dig out the link when I can find it. Dj 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

These are the ones I use
http://www.solentplastics.co.uk/massive-sa...ers/ They do fit between the arches, but as I have the drawer it's not an issue. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

They also allow you to try them in place. Very handy.

Interesting thread. My 90 will be our Overland project to build this coming year. Space obviously limited compared to the 110, so storage solutions are going to be a nutty problem to solve.
One thing though, we won't fall into the trap of taking too much stuff - the more space you have the more you fill it with, stuff you can probably do without, but cos you have room, take anyway. So not having that luxury could be a good thing ! ?! I'm thinking the fridge wants to be at tub floor level, to keep the weight as low as poss, but also to provide easier access to getting stuff out (I'm only 5'4!). Was thinking of a full width MSS drawer but thinking about the fridge I'm leaning towards a more custom design around it to give some low down storage for heavier items like tools but also with some secure bits for valuables, etc. As we hope to be travelling for 6 months it will be a pain to lift things in and out all the time, so looking for solutions where we can store things less used things semi-permanently, but with the most accessed stuff nearer the back door...... will take some thinking out so if anyone has done a 90 out already and can offer any suggestions please post! Ta! |
