coolant loss problem
I have a Td5 problem - actually a Disco not a Defender - for which I need some guidance.

The coolant level regularly drops to a point near the bottom of the reservoir, but apparently no further. When the lid is removed from the reservoir, even when the engine's cold, pressure is released from the system and the level, with a bit of gurgling, comes up to about one third full. There are no leaks that I can see and from what I can determine the coolant that's lost is forced out through the overflow pipe on the reservoir. I'd love to get some ideas on this. I don't understand what's going on here at all.

Also, after a run on the highway the thermo fan sometimes (but not always) continues to run for five or ten minutes after the engine is switched off. As far as I know this shouldn't happen. Not sure if the two are related. 1996 single cab 130

If you have bleed the system properly then it's not a good sign. I would recommend getting the coolant tested for a blown head.

Yes that's what I've been suspecting for some time. I was hoping that somebody might come up with something that's a little cheaper to remedy. 1996 single cab 130

Get a pressure check and also have coolant chemically tested for exhaust gas. This will at least help.
