It is more noticeable in 6th gear obviously because it is the cruising gear, check to see if you can replicate it in 5th, I feel sure it is transfer related and is more audible when at operating temp. ...

For clarification, why do you need a device like that? Do bonnets just get stolen? Very hard to believe this happens.
Why not when at home hook the vehicle up to 240v, that will deter them!
