Was the Hi/L linkage recently removed from the TB? Cause you can actually fit it the wrong way (by 180deg). It will work but not properly engage. m

Ensure part 35/31 facing forward. You can actually mount them facing backwards on a TDCI. m

35/31 are part of the diff lock mechanism.

The high/Low linkage is 25, albeit on a TDCI the terminals are plastic ball sockets, which I hear are prone to breaking. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

You are correct, however when mounted the wrong way it seems to press against the Hi/lo lever. m

Thumbs Up
Got me curious so I checked a picture I have from a friend's TDCI:

And I also have a picture from mine, although not so clear which direction it is mounted:

But in both cases, the diff lock linkage seems to be to the 'outside' of the diff lock pivot selector shaft, which would make more clearance for the Hi/Low lever (the clearance is visible towards the top edge in the 2nd photo above).

Good point 100inch. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

the issue is usually incorrect adjustment of the high/low rod, lever the red side clip out at the cab end,

using an adjustable spanner, clunk the transfer case lever forward to the front of the vehicle so you are in high, hold the lever in the cab in the high position, push the red clip in to clamp this position,

There are two implementations of the detent mechanism, I have no idea why. I do now, see below.

This is a TD5 box, with the detent ball and spring just behind the difflock switch.

This is a TDCi box, with the detent ball and plunger fitted from below acting on a forward extension of the selector shaft.

The reason why there are differences occurred to me some time after I made the above post, but I thought was worth adding to this old thread for the benefit of anyone searching for informatin in the future.

The Disco2 has a significantly larger diameter front output flange than any Defender, to mate with the double-cardan propshaft used on the Disco2. The change was therefore made to allow the larger flange to have adequate clearance by shortening substantially the forward protrusion of the selector shaft.
