Did the noise also lessen for you once things were warm? That's what's throwing me off a bit but to be safe I have ordered enough spares to replace all hardware if needed.
Also was it completely snapped? (Like I could feel it wiggle if I touched each mounting nut)? Will be a little screwed though if the mating surfaces are the issue! |

I presently have two defective studs on the front branch of the manifold. You can feel them wiggle, you can't tighten them (the thread in the head has stripped). The squeal comes and goes, when everything is warm it does it less, when the engine is cold and the manifold warms up it does it more. In summer it does it less (and differently) to winter.
I think the manifold also warps as it expands. I have a new manifold, studs, etc to fix, but the work involved in stripping the engine enough to helicoil the holes is depressing. |

Yeh getting enough clearance is the big worry for sure...hoping someone else had another, non-manifold, idea for me to try first! Haha

Mine was different with temperature also.
Don’t remember if the studs could be moved (it was 2008 to be fair) and it went back to the dealer under warranty. It took three visits with the same fault before they noticed the cat had been removed and there was no center box in the exhaust. 2011 130 Utility Body 2005 110 Van |

So after a few weeks of gathering parts and putting off what was going to be a PITA job of replacing the exhaust manifold I decided to un-do 1 'upgrade' I did recently as a 'hail mary' and what do you know....it solved the noise.
So I had recently fitting an Allisport Hard Boost kit (https://www.allisport.com/shop/performance-products/hose-kits/boost-hoses/defender-2-2-hard-boost-pipe/) and while the noise didnt really line up to an intake side issue I put the old silicone hose back on and now the noise is completely gone! I would really like to know why since I didnt appear to have any boost leak and after inspecting the kit there didnt seem to be any pin holes or leaks either (as I was using t-band clamps and had already gone around and tightened them after the issue started)........ Open to thoughts!!?? |
