Doesn’t it have an small bolt (screw) that you can remove to purge the air.
I can’t even remember the name of the hand operating grease gun I have, I had it for years but now and again I take out the screw, pump it so grease comes out then replace. Might be worth another look as it may not be obvious. |

Quite often this is a symptom of the grease drying out in the gun.

Buy a Fuch Reiner Grease Gun, seriously these are the best - see hyper link below.
We have tractors, 360 diggers and quite a bit of other plant and equipment and use a fair bit of grease - theses are seriously the best grease gun, never block and more importantly your hands stay clean - I absolutely hate conventional grease guns where you end up covered in the stuff. https://shop.lrt-lubricants.co.uk/products...grease-gun |

Thanks for the recommendation Grouse. This is just what I was looking for - I particularly like the screw on cartridge and it comes recommended. I'll get one ordered this week. Defender 90XS SW

That does look like it’ll do the job properly and reduce the mess - and not overly expensive either.
Might be worth adding one of these for good measure? Click image to enlarge I’ve only got a basic grease gun, and it can be a pain to operate with only two hands but the locking nozzle helps improve the greasing experience! |

The easiest way I found to cure the air locks is to buy the grease cartridges. Much less mess when it’s empty and needs filling again too. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

Thanks again to Grouse for his recommendation. Just been using my newly acquired Fuchs grease gun. Just done a grease around on my tractor and a couple of implements. Changing grease cartridges is a doddle, no mess whatsoever and hands completely grease free. First time I've used a two handed gun - so much easier than a single lever. Defender 90XS SW

They definitely make it so much easier and cleaner.
You can also buy the Fuch / KAJO type cartridges on eBay - various different makes and quantities e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-x-500g-LZR-2...635-2958-0 |

I use an air one in the workshop but although I don't own one, I saw a plant mechanic use a Dewalt battery powered one on a hire digger once - I lost a track and summoned help, the track adjusters use grease to tension the tracks back and he just put it on and brrrrrrt done. Better even than air - if I needed one I'd get one without hesitation. ---

Almost all cartridge grease guns can be manually purged if airlocked but nobody knows how to do it!
You pull the lever at the bottom out and then twist it 90degrees , this then overrides the spring tension and lever can then be manually pushed / forced in to the gun with more force than the spring, which forces trapped air out that the spring alone cannot. |
