[Wanted] Td5 Defender R380
Anyone got a good Defender Td5 R380 gearbox up for grabs?

Mine has started making a "knackered on its way out bearing" noise in 5th so guess I'd better start looking for one.

Might be better to get an Ashcroft exchange, will look into that as well.

Apart from the gear lever gubbins is there a difference between a Td5 Defender and a Td5 Disco R380?

If not it might widen your choices, Discos seem to be commonplace.

As blackwolf suggests, a TD5 disco R380 can be used with one of the selector conversion yokes.

It's a bit of gamble buying secondhand gearboxes as you can't really inspect the internals without stripping it down. Why not rebuild yours? 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

As a heads-up. My V8 90 has a Discovery R380 in it with an Ashcroft adaptor for the selector shaft and an LT77 top housing.
Gearchange in the donor discovery was really nice and slick. Gear change in the Defender is horrible, struggle to get it into 5th or reverse some days and when it gets hot even 3rd is a struggle to find. No idea why as they all select nicely when static and there is no adjustment possible on it.

If I was doing it again, I would fit the whole defender selector rail shaft instead and have a good look at the condition of the rest of the box.
