I had the same problem 3 months ago - needed a replacement 2.4 for my 09 Puma.
Having spent a fair amount of time phoning round all sorts of independents: Looked at putting the Ford 2.4 in (cheaper than a JLR badged unit, but warrantee issues) Looked at reconditioned 2.4 (questions over exactly what "reconditioned" meant) Looked JE Engineering's mustang engine (too expensive) Looked at JE Engineering's V8 options (too expensive) Looked at an LS3 (waaaay too expensive) In the end I went to Bowler. They put a new JLR badged 2.4 unit in at a very good price. Customer Service was exceptional. So much so that I asked them to upgrade the suspension while the vehicle was with them. Can't praise them enough. Kept me informed throughout - when they found additional issues I was given options, when they saved cost in other areas they told me about that too. Also got a wander round their workshop when I picked the vehicle up. All in all a really good experience |

Thanks for the replies, I’ll be waiting for the final verdict from the garage. Sigh.
Ideally I would be looking at an m57 swap, but I suspect it would be a bit too time consuming to start with that project… |
