Yes, Ms Pharmacist I am looking for some Astro Lube, it’s for lubing up my hoses to get them ready for fitment.
Perhaps that statement may possibly be the cause of a future court appearance 😳 |

Just received mine today in the post, 7 days from ordering which I'm impressed with seeing how far it had to travel. Off work on Friday so we'll see how it goes fitting it.

Fitted the new BAS intercooler today, all went pretty smoothly. The only tricky bit, as experienced by others, being refitting the hoses onto the intercooler. The slam panel studs all came out easily using the 2 nut method, replaced with the BAS supplied bolts.
The old intercooler (original LR one) had quite a decent sized split in it. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The BAS one looks a quality unit and a fair improvement over the stock one, however the top trim panel on the new intercooler was loose when unpacked. Stuck it back on with some liquid nails stuff. Hopefully the welding is better than the gluing. Fitted one yesterday. Took me about 4hrs, taking it slowly to avoid damaging other parts.
As I have a/c, space is tight but I eventually managed to slot the massive BAS unit in. The silicone hose coming from the turbo was not cooperating and required some persuasion (brutal force). I did use a hacksaw wrapped in a rag to cut the two plastic lugs from the rad, as suggested above in this post (thanks for the tip). However, I am interested to know how do you guys remove the bonnet slam panel? With the 2 bolts/studs either side being captive into the body, I have had to resolve tu use a pry bar to force the slam panel out. Didn’t seem right but couldn’t find a better solution at that time. See the 2 offending bolts/studs circled in red in attached picture. Quick test drive didn’t show any difference in performance, and I didn’t expect any. However the little black smoke I had before when flooring it in 5th uphill seems to have disappeared. More driving in different conditions will be required to confirm though. Click image to enlarge |

They are just studs - if you lock 2 nuts together they can be removed, swapped mine for bolts. Rgds. Chris |

MatLandy To remove the studs wind 2 nuts onto the thread of one stud and then lock them against each other (use 2 spanners in opposite directions) then undo the stud by winding the innermost nut. It won't come off the stud as it's locked against the outer one. Once the stud is out you can unlock the nuts using the 2 spanners and reuse them on the next stud. |

Ahahaha … Thank you for clearing that! Hopefully it will benefit someone else.
As with most land rover things, it’s quite obvious once you know. /Mat |

Also just fitted the BAS intercooler and hoses to my 2.4 with aircon .
It took me a good four hours as well and I should say an hour of that was messing about putting the silicone hoses on, in particular the new jubilee clips which in my opinion should be more generous !! Do line the bonnet catch up with the slam panel before tightening it and putting the grill back, it only needs to be a little bit off for it not to shut. I went for it as I do a lot of towing up steep hills and along with the 170 HP remap (up from 150 HP) I didn’t want to the engine . It’s another huge leap in terms of drive-ability , 6th gear is a dream to use, cruising effortlessly along . The rest pull constantly until you change up, a pleasure to drive . https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |
