But the important question is. Does it still come with it's Jag engine or has it been through the upgrade process and now have a stinky diesel engine.
To be fair they both drive nice.
Ony real downside to this is the flexi drive coupling that when it lets go lets the drivehaft through the firewall at about your ankle position.
And changing the drive belt on the older Jag engine variant was a pain, hence why the fitter section always cable tied a second belt in place to save a lot of work.

I took my tracks (H) license in 1 of these, well the SPartan variant. Driving around Germany in these was such great fun 110 D250 SE HT

Its the less sporty version - it's been dieselised so it's Cummins BTA 5.9lt Turbo diesel engine.

Thinking about it, I should of reralised it was the stinky diesel variant. The headlights are the newer design and the side bins are also not on earlier models.

On my driving course we used to have a competition to see how close we could get the lights to the road. If you drive fast enough and slam on the anchors it would slightly lift the rear end, with the front lights under the sponson plate you could get them fairly close.
It had a very low gear ratio. Used to pull away in 3rd IIRC. Coming down the box, from 4th to 3rd you could upset the commander very easily if done at more than walking speed Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 110 D250 SE HT

It's a rifled barrel isn't it? So presumably there is no civilian licence available?
I'm guessing the auction is open to museums etc. who might be able to keep a live one for research or demonstrations with blanks? 2005 110 XS - Cairns Blue "Bertha" - Gone, and sorely missed

As far as I know a "normal" Section 1 FAC will cover that, the ammunition might be more of a problem since I imagine that it may fire exploding projectiles (which would be Section 5, i.e., "forget it"). I am not aware of any reason why solid projectile rounds couldn't be held on a S1 FAC though.

Blackwolf ~ I had a sneaking suspicion, or maybe hope, that that might be the case. Begs the next question though, who makes a gun safe big enough to meet current legal requirements?

I'm not aware you can take any working parts out and store separately?

I think that the ROF 76mm L23A1 gun has a vertical sliding breech block, but don't know how easy it is to remove. Usually the requirement can be satisfied by removing a critical component which renders it inoperable (such as the vertical sliding breech block, if that's what it has) and securing that. A similar principal to removing the bolt from a bolt-action rifle. It would be an issue if it had a fully- or semi-automatic firing mechanism too, since either would make it a Section 5 weapon (as of course would be the Section 5 coax GPMG, you can forget getting a licence for that).

I remember a discussion I had once with an MV collector on a similar subject (actually an ex-Berlin live firing Chieftain), since to to get an FAC you need to explain not only why you need one but also why you need that particular firearm, I suspect so that you can't use "shooting vermin" as an excuse to get an AX308 or similar). In most cases that isn't particularly onerous, but I questioned how you would explain why you *needed* a live-firing Chieftain as opposed to a de-ac Chieftain. He assured me that it wasn't difficult, although I am not entirely sure I believed him.

That being said, how much gun crime do you hear about carried out by people with live-firing AFVs (or even for that matter with *licenced* firearms)?

I had the pleasure of a practice round exploding roughly where the one in the picture is, just after I'd pulled the trigger. We had to use end of life rounds as even back in the 80s they were £2.5k each



Back to the thread - son has just purchased a s/h 686. Now just waiting for the inspection before we can bring it home.

You should see mine... 😳

It's had the seats folded down & been used as a 'van' since early March, been filled to the roof with garden rubbish, old sheds, etc. & has transported c.400 6' fence posts from horse paddock to barn & then to new paddock! It's got a full hatchbag loadliner in it but I have a suspicion that once it's job is done I am going to need a shovel to start the clean up process! It has been far more useful than my previous 110 DCPU & 90 SW would have been doing the same job - both would have needed a trailer to do most of things I've managed without one for with the D4. Have to say I love the car, easily the best car I have ever owned for my needs.
