2 years or 21000 miles whichever comes first or indicated when the service needed indicator comes on. That’s irrespective of whether it’s a petrol or Diesel engine but can change if the car is being used in hot/cold climates or very dusty climates.
Even though mine doesn’t lead a very hard life I’m still going to get an annual oil and filter change even though it’s not strictly necessary under the recommended service intervals. Being a diesel mine turns the engine oil blacker than black with carbon very quickly even with synthetic oils Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Oil availability - is limited right now - for the correct 0W20 Petrol - JLR 03.5006 or 0W30 Diesel - JLR 03.5007 that meets JLR spec
Castrol Edge... but not readily available in UK motor factors. (Halfords) Shell Helix Ultra Professional seems to meet Diesel Spec But maybe easier to buy at the Dealers? |

Nothing stopping you from doing an intermediate oil & filter change in-between dealer servicing. Cannot do any harm with the potential for oil dilution from active DPF regens.
I've done this with my MY16 Defender, obtaining the (discounted) oil from Opie and either a Genuine filter from LR whilst under warranty or a Mahle one from ECP thereafter. I used Shell Helix Ultra Professional last time at £63 for 7 litres. [Edited] Apologies to the OP for the UK-centric information, but you must be able to find oil to the right spec and even a local garage to change it for you in the US. |
