Everyone will have their own views on mileage. Me?..I believe that a low mileage, original vehicle, with a solid service/ownership history is a good place to start.

Most important is how it was cared for. I have seen bullsh*t Defender TD4 coming back from commercial leasing and looking ready for scrapyard after 2 to 3 years. When the tranny came, everybody was aware it might be the last version of it and it became a lifestyle object - all the baby boomers having grown up looking at Landrovers finally tried to let a dream come true and ordered Defender. I know of dealer just rolling the factory pre-assembled Defender as is from delivery to customer in masses - no final assembly, no corrosion protection, no cleaning - in high masses. If you get one, you will be surprise how bad a three year old can be. I am surprised reading of a 2012 2.4 PUMA, do you mean registered 2012, so a late showroom car? Usually a MY2012 would be a 2.2 or? My opinion on the three option: - wouldn't go for the 2008, too close to the first 2007 year and maybe still has teething remains - the 2010 reads reasonable and would be my number one to look at - the 2012 I would question why it is a 2.4 on 2012, mileage is irrelevant if cared for correct Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

Hi,
I have not got the chassis number yet for the 2012 to check the actual build date but they keep telling me it’s a 2.4. Basically I am trying to avoid the 2.2 as I don’t like the idea of the dpf. If I find out it’s a 2.2 then the 2012 is dropped. The 2008 is actually registered 11/2008 so I guess that’s really a 2009. Any idea on how to confirm the model year? Thanks all for the reply’s so far John |

Why drop the 2.2 ? Its clutch and EGR are more reliable. The injectors are piezzo and not magnetic - far more reliable.
There are also a few other improvements by Tata. Is it the DPF ? Never had any issues and I've more than 100000 on the clock (1000...1500 rpm)... I'd rather drop the 2.4s because they've been optimized (economized) by FORD |

They changed the font color of the logo : In 2010, the symbol update happened: its gold color was replaced by the silver one. https://listcarbrands.com/land-rover-logo/ Don't know if that helps ... |

It's simpler, easier to work on, has an identical clutch, no dpf, and better still has an oil pump that keeps working, plus a genuine 10AS not the counterfeit one used on the last 2.2s. |

... and the 10AS is in the 2012 Defender, too
2.2 or 2.4 is a decision between an M1 car and an N1 utility (which saves you money, at least here in France) as well as EURO4 and EURO5 or Denso and Bosch injectors etc. etc. If you love to work on cars, take a vehicle from the 1990s or earlier. The older the better. That's fun. |

There are plenty of N1 2.4 options, it's all down to body style.

Yes, plus any with a commercial body-style (such as a double cab) from introduction.

No, late 2.4 starting production after summer 10 as MY2011 are all N1. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. Last edited by NinetyTD4 on 21st Jun 2020 7:13am. Edited 1 time in total |
