Defender MY12?
Hi Folks,

several weeks ago I ordered my new 90 Td4 SW ... On the order confirmation it says that "mine" will already be a MY12 with the 2.2l engine (estimated delivery 1st week of December).... I have managed to find out some information about the "new" engine but unfortunatels I have been unable to find out anything about any other changes or differences which will come with MY12.

Neither my dealer nor LR Germany seem to be able (or willing?) Crying or Very sad to supply further information about what other changes there will/might be Sad

Does anyone of you perhaps know more about what to expect?? Best Regards,

Axel

There are one or two threads about the 2.2l engine already in here somewhere - a search should dig them up Smile Steve.

diesel particulate filter
and some modifications to the fron (possibly plastic bumper) so it doesn't hurt pedestrians so much when you run them down.

Hi,

well I already found the threads regarding the new engine and the particulate filter ..... I guess in one way the new engine with EURO 5 could even be an advantage in view of ever growing traffic restriction araes ....

.... but acrually I am more concerned about other changes to the car (e.g. plastic bumbers) .... At the moment I feel slightly unsure as I have basically purchased "the cat in a bag" (as we say) .... i.e. I signed a contract and agreed to pay money but the other party can't or won't tell me exactly what I will get in the end ....

By the way, if my Defender gets delivered with plastic bumbers they might as well keep it!!! Evil or Very Mad Best Regards,

Axel

If you get plastic bumpers and don't like them just put the old metal ones on Thumbs Up I'll take them off you, at least they won't rust Rolling Eyes

It's nothing to take the edge of the excitement of getting your new Defender - Congrats and I hope the wait isn't that long - people seem to be getting theirs at least a couple of months earlier than initially expected Thumbs Up

Hello Axel

Here is a link to the 2012 Defender Owners handbook (in Deutsch) that may put some light on your concerns:

So, IF it comes with plastic bumpers which have been fitted to comply with this or that regulation, would removing said plastic bumpers and fitting the steel variety put the vehicle in breach of whatever regulation that caused plastic ones to be fitted in the first place? I suppose there could also be insurance implications if the vehicle was insured on the understanding that it complied with the regulations too.

I mean it's a bit like me removing the dealer installed towbar off my Puma and sticking the drop plate and towbar I still have in the garage that I took off the '97 300Tdi which I used to own.

In reality I don't suppose it would matter much ... perhaps until something went wrong. [/u] Steve.

If it does come with a plastic bumper I would be wary about changing it, as it would no longer comply with the relevant regulations that made it a requirement in the first place. It would no doubt have insurance implications if you had an accident. Also it would probably fail you in the M.O.T or N.C.T. as it is not compliant with the regulations for that model year. Hopefully the plastic bumper is some way off yet. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Cancel the order and buy a pre-registered one. That way, you get an new (all but), but also something you actually want. Would certainly put me off, not knowing what I was going to get delivered come the big day! Mark

I suppose that the 2.2 fitted to the Range Rover Evogue is a complete non runner for the Defender? The emissions are well down and there seems to be lots of hp.Suppose too much re-engineering would need to be done. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Plastic bumpers? Ugh... Crying or Very sad

I have images of the mid '70s MGB, with the black rubber clown nose bumpers.

Pfft. That takes the fun out of it! Although I don't see how a plastic bumper will make any difference if you hit someone at any speed above 5mph... There's still a tonne and a bit of mobile-brick behind, and I wouldn't fancy faceplanting the bonnet at any speed.

If it does turn up with plastic bumpers and you wanted a winch with a tasty winch bumper would you be allowed?
