Screening injector loom in a TD5 - any pictures

I am still trying to get rid of what seems to be injector noise in the TD5 radiated from the injector loom. I have found advice of adding ferrites and screening the loom. But cant find any pictures which might help in telling me where to do it.

Has anyone done this and has any photos?

and/or has anyone any other suggestions other than bonding everything.

This is all in ad of the HF/VHF radio in the car

Copper tape is not the best idea. Look on some copper braid, like shield from RG213 cable placed over vhole cables between ECU and engine. Than add some clamp on ferrites on cables.
I have tried it, but only with limited succes. Better results were with some add on RF filters at the ECU side.
You need to measure before and after any change/improvement. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

thanks. any RF filters that you can point me to. I have some decent flat earthing braid so will give that a go

1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue

I saw a post recently on faceyache about similar issues with a TD5...Was this you CC? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I had to make them my self, and modify them in several stages. Result was not good enough. Final result was 300 tdi
Car was used for rf interference finding, even in tdi we had to add switch to alternator for some measurements. Requirements were much more tight than military standards. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

Basic principle was to add shield to all power cables - between ECU and injectors a on power input cables to ECU. This was first improvement. Second improvement was shield to all other cables from engine ECU, and some other ECUs. Important was shield also over connectors, not just connecting wires between cable shields.
Clip-on ferrites are good on VHF, on HF you need lot of them, so it is not the best solution, asi it takes quite lot of place.
All RF filtering must be placed as close as possible to the RF interference source. Because of high voltage and high currents needed to control TD5 injectors, is is not easy to make appropriate coil as a part of low pass filter. The same with cappacitors - you cannot add too much to risk some resonance or to add too much capacitive load to the injector driver.
What HF bad you are looking for? For ham radio I have no problems to work at 28, 50, 144 and 430 MHz. Lower bands are not good, but main problem is too short antenna. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

the main issues as you say are on 20 & 18m for me. I am going to get the SDR out a sniff where the worst is being generated. Then I plan to screen the drivers seat box with the ecu's in it and take it from there.

Hey its not such a problem to stop to use the rig on HF or take the D4 where it works perfectly on the go.

The advantage when I stop is I can use a bigger aerial ! ( i know its 2m but you get the idea)

Are you planning on screening the drivers seat box as a whole i.e a lining or braid over the cables? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I will try the box first and then move on to wrapping the cables in earth braid

Screening the whole box, without some feedthrough filters on each cable out of the baox is wasting of time. You will be happy for 20dB reduction of interference, but probably much less, beacuse of the cables. For just basic test try big piece of Alu foil tightly wraped aroud each part (engine ecu, fuse box, ...) together with coresponding connectors and cables. Fast and easy to instal, and it will work at least for short time to make some measurement. For permanent instalation you need more mechanicaly stable solution like copper braid or mesh.
